Re: SolidWorks
I purchased BendTech Pro w/ Sheet Metal Module and Header Design Module a few months back when it was on sale. Got all three for $350. Don't plan to make too much stuff, I really just wanted to wet my beak into the world of tube bending/fabricating so that in 10yrs I can build my own roll cage.

Re: Tungsten - price versus quality
yup welding city tungstens here. By my hobbyiest eyes, they seem fine and I cannot tell the difference at the moment between their 2%La, Matheson Brand 1.5%La, Diamond Ground Tri-mix, and HTP's Quad-Mix tungstens, lol. Perhaps it is because I do not do much high (>150A) welding for very long periods...

I sold mine for $400 or so. The power hose sucks. I highly recommend a superflex hose even for a hobbyist because the stock ones won't last for squat

Re: Finger Control or Foot Control?
It all depends on your dexterity and how well you forge your muscle memory. Even though I am a hobbyist, I plan to get a hand amp control (not sure if I want the slider, or the rotary type). Been playing guitar for 23 years, and my left hand dexterity in my fingers is awesome. :D For most work, I ca...

Re: Tig copper
bb1127, This thread on TIG welding copper and the one on MIG welding copper has allowed me to dive deep into how this is done. For now I wanted to comment on the use of Helium and Argon. First, how thick is the material you are welding? This will determine what gas you should be using. Instead of c...

Re: Tig copper
I just TIG'd some tiny copper tubes, ~1/8" OD, about ~0.020" wall. Argon works just fine for me. Granted there will be discoloration due to the heat sinking capability around the weld joint, but a quick brushing will take care of it. Pulse works great for this.

Re: What is your preferred TIG Welder brand, model?
Right now my preferred machine is my HTP Invertig221 because I own one. Ideally I'd love to have a Miller Dynasty 350, but I can't justify the price at the moment. I'm just a hobbyist-level welder, but I certainly do love all the advanced digital settings, even though I don't need all of them at the...

If that's the machine I believe it to be - ( though with a different sticker on ) I've used it - it has several quirks & limitations - I also hate that retarded toe/ foot pedal which is the least user friendly / linear of any I tried - but as a first / hobby Tig it welds OK - it's not in the sa...

Re: What’s the best NEW AC-DC TIG welder for under $1,500?
It is really hard to read thru all the crap on other forums about the different china machines. It seem like if an everlast arrives and it is not DOA right out of the box then people are happy with them but they still arrive DOA. Same with Eastwood rebranded ones. But at least they seem to have a s...

Re: What's a good price for a Water Cooled TIG torch?
Hi John, I love the Flex Loc. I mostly weld tubing, and this torch has really helped. It does take a little getting used to. After about a week or so though it was second nature to adjust the head angle. And yes, all of the HTP torch packages are genuine CK torches and Superflex cables. The only th...

The HTP Invertig 221 will do up to 200Hz, and is feature packed, with a good warranty, for about ~$2500.

I've gotten that before, and I always figured it was contamination from the argon tank being that it is not "high purity" argon. Either that or perhaps aluminum oxide particles from the grinding wheel I sharpen tungstens on.

"having trouble getting the weld that looks right"
that could mean anything. You could describe it with a thousand words or just post up one good clear picture.

http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u235/musico79/100_0873.jpg I owned a Eastwood AC/DC TIG200 new, bought in November 2011. I personally never had any issues the machine. I did however go through two of their 1pc power/gas hoses. The first one succumbed to heat from high-amperage welding (or weldin...

Math? Measurements? .030" is about two thumbnail thicknesses :D ...your results may vary... lol...while that may be true, my fingernails are too curved---that's just how they are, so it'd be difficult to use them as a "gauge". Not only that, they are slightly pointed due to me playin...

3. Get a Tig Finger Your welds will always look better and more uniform when you can prop and steady your torch hand. 4. Get a down and dirty shirt to go along with the Tig finger. The more you look and feel like a welder, the faster you will get good at it! ;) :D  Hey, I thought it was th...

I just got my HTP Invertig221 DV w/ water cooler.
I assure you, it is worth every penny (especially considering I got it during the black friday sale with a total of $300 savings).
