a friend wants me to to weld his aluminum boat prop. (he is really cheap) its dug up pretty bad,
is 4043 aluminum rod ok? how should i prep it before welding?

what is the best rod for tig welding a 4130 frame for a trike? some of the baja forum guys say they weld it all day long with 309 ss rods. I checked on the price for 309 and it is around 15 dollars a pound vs 3 bucks a pound for mild steel tig rod. if i thought it was worth it, i would buy the 309.....

anyone have experience with 2 percent lanthanated electrodes? I always use 2 percent thoriated. I ready somewhere that lanthanated are a better all purpose electrode and work better on AC than the thoriated. also, I was thinking about a tungsten sharpener. Are they a waste of money? I used one once ...
