Re: Leaky welds

Jonathan, as far as I know our blasting sand is some sort of granular metal product but I'm not certain. I do whip my weld a little, much in the same way as Jody does in his mig videos but as I said before I'm trying to be very careful and not step outside the leading edge of the puddle. I will try ...

Re: Leaky welds

Jonathan, as far as weld parameters go, I'm not sure exactly what you're asking for but the weld is a fillet weld somewhere around 3/16" in size. It could actually pass if it was only 1/8" but usually we add just a tiny bit to the size. The gas I'm using is just run of the mill 75ar/25co2 ...

Leaky welds

Greetings all. Just wanted to throw this out there. I just changed jobs and the shop I'm working in now MIGs almost everything. I'm pretty good at MIG if I do say so myself but I've never had much practice on welding pipe or anything related (couplings, small vessels, small tubing ect ect) with MIG....

New to forum, from Oklahoma

Greetings all, just wanted to say hello and introduce myself. The name is James and I'm relatively new to welding. I went to and graduated Tulsa Welding School in early 2011 and since then I've worked in 3 steel fab shops. All 3 shops build equipment related to either oil/natural gas well drilling o...

Never used any ESAB machines but I'd like to try one. I know their filler metals seem to be very high quality.

Re: 3G Mig Root Downhill

I personally prefer the "bury-rod" method. For that 3/16 gap, no land, I'd use 1/8" 6010 at 105A, and jamb it in, straight down the middle, dragging at the speed the rod burns. This builds a nice back-bead. The method is not for everyone, though. Here's an example on 12" sch. 80...

Re: Lincoln 256 or miller 252 ?

I'm a Miller fan for some things and a Lincoln fan for others. Personally, I believe Lincoln makes better wire feeders. I once used a Lincoln PowerMig 250 with only a single set of feed rolls and it would feed wire even when I had the hose twisted into a figure 8. In comparison, Miller 20 series wir...

3G Mig Root Downhill

Recently some of the guys in the shop were mad at the owner of our shop and all decided to start practicing 3G plate tests for another company lol. (While the owner was on vacation I might add) They were doing downhill mig roots on V grooved butt-joint with roughly 3/16" gap and no land. One of...
