Re: Tell me what's going on here
309 filler will join 316, but it will not be as strong. But this is not the cause of your weld appearance.

Re: TIG welding an oil pan
ER70 S2 will work just fine, 309 would work too. I've never seen issues with carbon steel soaking up contaminants. That's usually something you find in cast parts. But you will need to clean and deburr it well. All the paint and coatings should be removed at least an inch from the welds.

Re: What’s the best NEW AC-DC TIG welder for under $1,500?
Different brands and country of origin aside, You need to give yourself an honest evaluation of just what capabilities you need in a machine. A good basic machine that only does 165A @ 30%duty cycle is a lot less expensive than one rated for 250A or with all the bells and whistles. There's a bunch o...

Re: Modifying an aluminum radiator
I am glad to report that the aforementioned modifications appear to be a success! I cut the radiator up, Fabricated some new parts, and welded it back together. After great deliberation I choose to use 1/16" 3003 sheet, and 4043 filler. To make sure that it is not leaking, I made up some adapte...

Re: Modifying an aluminum radiator
Thanks for the replies and warm greetings. I've been all over the web looking for info. Seems like, due to the temps associated with the cooling system, it would be best to use 4043 filler. I'm still not sure about what alloy would be best for the necks, and adding to an end tank. Some info Ive foun...

Modifying an aluminum radiator
Hi everyone, I'm working on an automotive project, and am going to have to modify the aluminum radiator. I'll have to reshape one of the end tanks and relocated both necks. Questions I have are; Are there any special considerations I should be aware of because the core is "nocolok" brazed?...
