Re: New July 2014 Everlast 210ext
I'm envious of the dual voltage! I bought the 2013 version in February, and I've been very happy with it. One tip... I helped a guy get started with his 2014 model, and it had a quirk where 4T-style start amps and ramp up were enabled when the pedal was connected - it made for really weird behavior....

Re: Air Products argon gas valve.
Peter, when you say it is an Air Products cylinder, where exactly do you see this marking? Rental bottles have the owner's name in raised letters on the collar where yours says "300 Bar". The label on the cylinder is just the last shop that filled it, and doesn't mean they own it. In the l...

gas is so cheap...big lens, run 30cfm, set your amps correct, and have fun :) Dont worry about the increased gas.....do some shopping, here in arizona I pay $32 per LARGE bottle of argon Where? I'm getting $50 for a 200 or 300cf at Allied Gases, at hobbyist volumes, and that was after some shopping...

Re: The what I welded today (/whenever) thread (pics please)
Scientific guess here... I suspect it's because sockets are actually welded a distance back from the end of the pipe, so that "loose end" is free to expand and contract inside the fitting. I think this is usually described as a problem during the welding process because you add so much hea...

Re: places online to buy tig equipment/accessories
+1 to all the excellent replies here. Buy filler locally, and buy it in 10# boxes. You'll save in the long run, and it's at least as cheap as you'll find online after you factor in shipping costs. Shop around and find an LWS with good gas pricing - there's a wide range. Mine knows me by face, probab...

Re: Welding Table Tops, AR500 Steel, or something else?
Piling on to the OP's broader question... What alloy makes for a good / bad welding table surface? I've been enjoying a Strong Hand BuildPro table with its grid of fixture holes. It seems to be some kind of rust-resistant, hardened alloy, though it's not impervious to rust or grinding. Then, of cour...

The only time I came close to "falling out" was at a shutdown in SC, because I was sweating so heavy I was potassium-low. The gatorade showed up, and I drank 12 ounces without ice, and was fine in 10 minutes. Yup. Hyponatremia is as deadly as dehydration, and the symptoms are nearly the s...

Re: Everlast 325ext on Amazon.com
Looks legit. Keep in mind some practical points: Whatever it costs you on Amazon, the bottom line should be cheaper direct because Amazon's not in the middle of the transaction. Amazon collects tax from many/most jurisdictions. Everlast only collects for California. Because there is less profit in a...

Re: Another tig question...
Heliarc is the old school name for TIG, and it comes from the original use of helium shielding gas, which also has the effect of making the arc even hotter. Adding helium to argon is still a technique for boosting heat, but helium is more expensive.

Call around to your local welding gas supply houses to get pricing - it'll influence your thinking. E.g., you might find that it's only twice as much to fill a 330cf vs. an 80cf cylinder. You will also find a wide range of prices between shops, so it pays to call around. Also ask about renting bottl...

Who welds at 3 Amps DC or 5 Amps AC in the normal world I see that the most welder go that low but why do you need it just to say you can. You need least 12 to 20 Amps AC to weld a pop can or aluminum rad core. Welding 3 Amps DC just get the .010 steel hot enough not to touch but not hot enough to ...

Re: Beginner needing input on equipment
That's not an unusual situation. In many locales, either because of the market or local laws, the LWS limits the size of cylinder they'll sell. Will your LWS fill a customer-owned 330cf cylinder, and at the same price? And will they hydro-test it when it expires? If so, then an option is to keep loo...

Yes I do need AC/DC welding aluminum is a must. Thanks for the info its greatly apreciated! Ah, I missed that. Not only does aluminum need AC, but it also pushes you toward a bigger welder because a) aluminum wicks away heat much faster than steel, and b) AC is less efficient at putting heat into th...

Re: Need to go to next level advice needed.
Something you didn't mention: aluminum. That may save your budget. No aluminum = no AC = cheaper welder. As for multi-process, even Everlast will steer you away from them. Realize that the input gases need to be changed up when you switch between plasma and TIG, there can be issues with moisture in ...

General commentary… I've always been a stickler for glass lenses, and fortunate that my prescription hasn't been too strong. I checked out your video - has your welder shown up yet? Did Everlast end up cutting you a better deal direct? FYI, these are the heavy gloves I was thinking of - they're more for MIG & stick, but they're thick and work well handling hot stuff. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Lincoln-Electric-Premium...

Trying to broaden my skills, I did Oxy-Acetylene last week for the first time, and MIG yesterday… they give me a whole new appreciation of TIG. Each process has its strength, but I don't regret focusing on TIG - it definitely matches my style. Stick is coming up, LOL.
