flex neck mig gun
I guess you might consider this a mini review of the flex neck gun. I picked up a flex neck mig gun for my lincoln, I think the gun is made by HTP, it takes HTP consumables anyway. A link to it is at the bottom of this post. First thing I noticed, is that I don't really like how the nozzle attaches,...

Re: helmet
Here is my solution to seeing what I'm doing just before the arc starts :) Cleaning or replacing the front plastic cover helps alot as well. Then just dial the helmet's brightness in until you can see what you need to see after the arc starts. http://404photography.net/wip/welding_helmet_01.jpg

Re: Problem with auto darkeing helmet, it's too dark.
Sounds like you've tried everything. Wonder how much a replacement for just the electronics will be? Sounds like that's what you'll have to do, replace the electronics. It should just pop right out of the helmet. However, if the helmet was DOA (not working when it arrived) I'd press them to send you...

Sounds like it's not functioning correctly. Maybe you can get a replacement?

My 1300hp Ford runs just fine..... :o when it runs  I like the clutch clock, but I can honestly say my wife would never let me hang that stuff in the house She will tolererate a 1300hp Ford, but not a broken clutch clock? The glue is drying on the clock, ended up using solder for the numbers, 1/8" TIG rod was a bit to difficult to bend in these small shapes.

Re: re-using old car parts
So, the next thing I want to make is a wine rack. I don't drink much wine, but I could use a convenient place to store whisky :D I'm thinking about finding an old 4cyl flathead engine block, sawing it in half and making two shelves that will hold 8 bottles. It will be heavy as **** but it will kind...

Re: Mig Welding Basics part 3
I seen someone take a sharpie and write the different metal thickness on the display and all you had to do was set the knobs to it and go. It was simple and easy. yea that's kinda what I'm talking about. Take some time to figure out good settings for various thicknesses, then just mark them down on...

I have never liked how my Lincoln welder has wire speed of 1-10 and amps from A-J :? It's just difficult for me to remember which letter of the alphabet I was using for 1/8" metal, or whatever. Was it E and a half? or H and three quarters. Why does Lincoln make the knob graphics like this...

Re: motorcycle frame bracing
If I were going to be doing a significant mount of tubing work in one or two sizes, I'd probably pick up one of these! Looks like they would remove alot of guess work. I'm contemplating picking one up (or seeing if I can borrow one from someone) when I start on the cage for my jeep, some of it is al...

re-using old car parts
I don't know what it is, but i like re-using jeep parts as household items. First ones are simple, a change bowl from the front diff cover of my 06 jeep, and a coaster from an inspection cover off the transfer case of my 46. I've had these aluminum oil pan parts left over from a diesel motor, as soo...

Thanks for the reply. I'm pretty much done with 18v. I bought two brand new battery's last year, and maybe 20 charges a piece since then, and there not holding a charge long. I'm loving 20v. I've got the 1/2" drill, the 1/4" impact driver, two sawzalls, and 6 battery's. Definetly gonna be...

new welding cart/table
Now that I have two machines and two bottles, I really need a new welding cart. last weekend I welded a few pieces of angle iron to an old wheel chair, my neighbor is using it to wheel his BBQ smoker around. Looks a bit strange, but it works quite nicely!
He gave me some smoked hard boiled eggs to try, they taste quite good!
