Clean! Only until he fires it up... :D I'm going to have to work on my pipe welding, I want one for my TDI, but can't stand the thought of paying what the commercial offerings are asking! Yeah there was no way I was going to pay near $300 for a DP, I actually don't have a ton of money in everything...

Had to repair some dirty old stainless can't always be weldporn with new material at a bench. There is something satisfying about welding all curled up like a pretzel.
I couldn't get to the backside of this weld really good to clean a couple spots gave me issues.

Re: need advice about thick to thin
I like the idea of pressing in brass or alum heat sink, will also help if you get greedy and get through. I'd run no pulse, focus on the thick, thin filler and wash the weld down into the thin. If done this on 316L tubing .065" to various thicknesses and it works very well. Could also preheat t...

Good morning mates! On .065" wall I use a jumbo cup, 1/16" Thor tungsten, 60amps, 2.5pps, slow and steady travel speed looking for that devil's eye in the puddle. My little 150 Maxstar STH doesn't allow me to play with background and peak time it is at 50/50. If I do straight pulls no puls...

Yeah I was worried about not being enough metal left to work with. But they said try so I tried. I've had to do that here in a pinch to keep running or order materials. I blew through at 30 amps! Luckily I was able to make a patch and find some better material, but had to work fast and be ready to ...

I sliced a box section in halve to check the weld. As you look close there is a line in the bead. Is this the residue of the oxide that floated on the penetration? 1493399734973403799610.jpg This is the inside of the tube. 1493399805033758253074.jpg This is the same weld from the outside.
