Thanks for the replys. That does make sense then for what im doing the smaller rod should be fine. So there is not enough amperage to get the heavier rods to burn in.

Any suggestions on this weld then?
Too flat? Slow fast? Suggestions for a newbie.

Ok so total newbie question. By no means am I a welder...pure hobby and just started. When I stickweld with 1/16 I get a good clean weld with good penetration (wheni say good I mean for me).
