I weld with the current setting as high as possible to make a penetration weld without burning a hole through.

Thanks for all the information.
I have been welding fine on my settings, so I leave them as they are.
The best weld we find is having the voltage setting on 4, wire speed setting on 5 and current on 5. This is for a CEA Maxi 401 Mig welding machine.

Is it better when MIG welding to have the voltage setting higher than the current setting or is it better to have the current setting higher than the voltage setting?

For example if I am welding two 10 mm flat bars together, I will grind the edges of the two flat bars I am going to weld together to 45 degree angles.I will grind the flat bars around the area I am going to weld them ,to clean the flat bars so my weld doesn't have gap...

Penetration Welding
Hi All
I Mig weld mild steel tubes, flat bars and I beams. Whatever I weld I always put the current high enough to make a penetration weld. Is this always the best thing to do?
