.050 aluminum
image.jpg Ok so, I have a new project at work which involves welding some 1/4" flat bar to some .050 sheet metal. I've done some practice runs but cant figure out why or how to prevent the warp. There is a chance of anodizing some I'm using 5356 filler. My settings currently very widespread but...

Re: Etching question
Really? A collet over gas lens, to be honest I've never used a collet I've always gone with gas lens. So a number 5 gas lens cup vs a number five collet cup, the collet wins? What about gas coverage it will be affected in some fashion correct? Let me ask another question, why does the etching zone d...

Re: Etching question
No sorry it's a 5000 series aluminum .050, it just seems like no matter what I do the backside gets browned.

Re: Etching question
That was a great post on amplitude adjustment, when I get the opportunity I'm going to play around with it using what the post outlined. One more question is browning on the backside of sheet metal, specifically .050. Any string recommendations and or causes.

Re: Etching question
I have the htp 221, so I do have some features at my disposal. I have tried as much as 85%en but man the puddle gets grainy. I would like to stay in the 72-75%en realm. if maybe I had a practical application for the amplitude setting on the machine I could see if using that helps. Anyone use amplitu...

Re: Etching question
image.jpg here's a frame with the etching that really needs to be reduced. We polish all Of the tubing pre weld. So hitting them with scotch bright after looks bad. The welds can't have any penetration or distortion on the backside because we put adhesive strips on all 4 inner walls post weld. So i...

Etching question
I'm sure someone along the way has asked this question but I'm still going to ask, ha! So the work I do is aluminum Tig, all clean gravy work. Mostly square tubing of various sizes and some small 4" and 5" pressure tanks. All of my work has to be super clean because the products are sold a...

Well see when I started doing the tanks the guy was in desperate need for someone, his welder got thrown in jail for his 3 dwi so... I picked up the same hourly rate he was at when he went to jail...25$ an hour. I know I'm not getting what I should for the work but someone would be right behind me d...

What to charge?
image.jpg image.jpg I'm hoping some of the business owners can help me out with this question. I've been welding these aluminum tanks for 4 months now and it's a solid acct. The question I have is what would you guys charge for building this tank, the tank is 6061-T6 all around. The top bottom and ...

Evolution Rage 2
I've been meaning to put up a review on the Evolution Rage 2 dry cut chop saw, so here it goes! I bought the saw from a local distributor threw my company so the price was way below the internet pricing you normally see. I'll start out by saying there's no other way I'll ever cut metal again aside f...

You can adjust the speed with your foot, and I do sometimes but it's really touchy. The best way I've found that works is just setting the speed with the inline air adjustment knob and speed up or slow down accordingly.

image.jpg image.jpg So there is the homemade turntable, it's a pneumatic motor with a belt that turns a pulley which turns a shaft that's connected to a piece of 1/2" aluminum plate that has been drilled out. It's rather simple and very effective. Any box with wheels could be used that just wh...

Re: Jodie's fault lol
I suppose I'll chime in to help... 1/4" mild steel, I would use 1/8 tungsten 2% lanthanated, 1/8 70s6 filler and run somehwere in the 150-175 range on the amperage. Just try it out and see how it goes, if the puddle isn't getting down in the root or not catching both edges add 10 more amps or s...

Re: Aluminum tank thoughts...
image.jpg Thanks Rick! It took me awhile to get it where it looks like that, if I welded for a living I'm sure I could have shortened the amount of time it took. Also, I was using a #8 cup with a stubby 3/32 gas lens with 2% lanthanated tungsten. If this helps anyone I've found that amperage and tr...

Re: Silicon Bronze question??
Thanks for the response, I deff brushed it with a stainless brush that I've used on other stainless and aluminum. I'll try letting it cool off first this nest time and I'll also sand the initial weld and see if that sheds any light. Thanks again brother

Silicon Bronze question??
This will be my first technical post on this forum but I'm sure it won't be the last. I was wanting to do some silicon bronze tig brazing and picked up a spool of silicon bronze because they didn't have any in tig rod, so I twisted a couple pieces of .035 together with my drill and vice. I ran a cou...
