Re: Everlast SUPERULTRA 206SI

In the meantime, go through the basics, just to see if you are missing that one basic step. What do you have to lose? Sometimes we all miss little details when we focus on the big picture.

Were you doing Mig, or flux core? Never tried it yet, always assumed it was an overpriced spray that "kinda" worked.

Re: Everlast SUPERULTRA 206SI

Not quite sure yet, but I will bet it's operator error. I have the PowerUltra205 (older model), 1/4" is a breeze for the plasma. I can do 3/4". Make sure your tip is good, air pressure (too much is bad) is good. clean, DRY air. Good ground, proper angle, speed, etc............. go over the...

Re: Cutting - evolution, band saw or?

Chop saw is faster, noisier, messier, band saw, you can do other stuff while it's cutting. Chop saw can do bigger, band saw is way more accurate. Go figure, guess you need to have both, LOL

Re: Mig with argon gas

Yeah, aluminum needs straight Argon. Steel needs 75/25, etc, for best quality. You get a taller bead, less penetration, more undercut with Argon.Don't know about S/S.

slag

Yup, same question multiple forums. I either Tig, Mig, or Fluxcore, haven't stick welded in at least 30+yrs. Anyway, been messing with some 6011, noticed no real slag on the welds. Even opened up a fresh, sealed box cause the first few I tried were old, and laying on the bench in the open. Normal fo...

I had a piece of Al, did the same thing. Madee kind of a splint on the back side and epoxied it in. Def gave more strength to the repair.

Re: Pot Metal Repairing a Keepsake

I would want to repair a keepsake as best as possible. Problem is, if you try and Tig it, and it melts it away, you are screwed. Best bet would be JB weld, or any name brand epoxy. My two cents.

Re: What's up with my tungsten.

No such thing. Too short, yes. Too long, can’t happen. Argon post flow provides two purposes: shielding the weld while it cools and cooling the tungsten to prevent contamination from the atmosphere. At 325 amps, 25 seconds is just about right. But your picture shows a tungsten that looks whacked. Th...

Unless you really need the money, or not enough space, don't sell it. Almost guaranteed the day after you sell it, you find you need it.

I've been DC tacking aluminum now for close to 15 year now with A75. I thought if you could weld aluminum you knew this trick. But apparently my night guys have never seen it and are questioning my methods. Every site I've been on says it's the preferred way to tack. Is there anything in AWS D1.1 t...

just looked online, looks like some HDs do sell it. Go figure. $204.00 for a 40cf tank, but it also says contents sold separately, dunno. But, ya never know with the big box stores, they like to get a piece of the action when they can.

Sad to say though, at the end of the day, my beautiful S/S headers and sidepipes get all colored up from engine heat anyway. Some color can be polished off, but worrying about weld colors when engine heat gives straw colors, etc...............constant struggle to try and keep them branny new looking.

Hello all, this isn't a question about welding, but about why in freezing weather, does all the power cords to my power tools and welder get stiff. my workshop is in a unheated garage, and every winter time before I can do any work, I have to loosen up the cords. does anyone know the answer to this...

Guess it really doesn't really matter now, you had to turn down the job, but in the future, do you have a MIG/spool gun available? I'd prefer that over TIG for that size material, and that type job.

Re: Lots of Coupons, Poor Mig Welds Automotive Sheet Metal

I agree with others, skip the magnets. Even welding magnets messed with my arc, I'd imagine a rare earth magnet is even worse. The welding magnet being within an inch or two messed up the weld, so a rare earth magnet could affect the weld in a larger area?
