Burning up the Tungsten, is your gas flowing properly? Coupla times I forgot to turn gas on, I would melt away the Tungsten.

I've had my Everlast Tig/Stick/Plasma unit for at least 6 yrs now without any issues. Home/hobby use, not production, but still going strong.

Re: cleaning metal before MIG
Just make sure you keep the rags you wipe with agood distance away. Seems like you can set them on fire with a single welding spark from 20 feet away. Heck ive even set a pan of gasoline on fire that someone left on my solvent cleaning sink "by accident" from across the shop. Tho that was...

Ok, I got myself a Bobcat 250. I got myself an AHP tig welder. NOW, I am getting a mig welder. I will do so in June. I have taught myself to weld. I am surprised at the fact that I could. haha I had a brain injury in 03. It feels good to know my mind still works. ANYWAY, I see the differenc...

Re: Getting Started with TIG
Go for it! Start with a good helmet, gloves, and 1/16, or thicker cleaned steel. With no filler, but 15 CFH argon, make horizontal rivers of liquid steel. Tomorrow, you will add basic filler. I buy steel filler so seldom I have to check the designation each time 70S...... I used RG45 for many years...

not trying to cheap shot ya, but tig is the hardest to do, especially aluminum. your really jumping in the deep end here. i would switch that welder over to stick welding mode, grab some sticks and go weld beads with that first. Haha, well I'm competitive, stubborn, and I've got nothing but time to...

Sorry, but sure does feed ammo into the 3 import vs 1 USA made purchasing debate. Unfortunately, the manufacturing motto these days is "Planned Obsolescence", the "expired by" date is getting shorter all the time.

Couldn't agree more, magnets mess with Mig when too close to the arc.Franz© wrote:LOOSE THE DAMN MAGNETS!

Re: Total noob but Anxious to learn
Guess there's two ways to look at this. Learn to walk before you run, weld 1/8, 1/4,etc, master that, then weld harder stuff, like razor blades. Or, learn to weld something really hard, like thin razors, if you can master that, thicker metals should be a breeze. But learning on thin stuff won't help...

Good to see another member. Can't say much about tables, I build my own, but as far as the AHP, you will like it. I had to make the same choice, AHP suited my needs, and budget.

Re: Does anyone make a 2 pin pedal WITHOUT an amp knob?
Sorry - but without modifying your welder you cannot use a pedal - the one you pictured is as I described - uses 2pins for the switch control & 3pins for the current pot ( just separate plugs ) yours as standard has no external connection or ability to switch over from the panel knob to a pedal...

Re: Does anyone make a 2 pin pedal WITHOUT an amp knob?
not sure it will work. Some of the import welders have 2 sockets, and the pedal has 2 wires. Thats what the pedal you are looking at is probably for. How many pins are in the socket on the panel? Also, you need to match the resistance of the pedal to the machine, some require 10k, some 22k, etc. You...

Re: Does anyone make a 2 pin pedal WITHOUT an amp knob?
With or without an amp knob makes little difference - only important thing is the resistance range - if you hate the knob undo it & blank the hole either leaving the pot inside & insulated if room or disconnect - BUT the thing I'm wondering is how a pedal is going to connect with only 2pins...
