Re: new to pulse welding mig

Sorry forgot to add
1.2 mm wire
Doors shut
Also sometimes while tacking the problem happens
But not on the first tack but on later tacks when you would think that a decent return had been established
I will ponder some more!

Re: new to pulse welding mig

Ok, Pulse to me sounds a little like a massive bumble bee! When my problem starts,it seems to revert to a bad weld setting with spatter flying around almost like what happens when you forget to turn the gas on! Although there is no visible porosity. The pulse setting is 4.2 m/min wire(so approx 40x4...

new to pulse welding mig

I have just "invested" in an otc welbee pulse mig after many years using a reliable transformer cv welder. Lots of practice on the bench has yielded good results with the different types of pulse.but when I am fabricating 4-5 m long frames SOME of the welds are acting strange while I am la...

Re: lead welding with tig

Hello, After a lot of distractions I have finally got to grips with a bit of lead(pb) tig. First, large ceramic lots of argon(similar to o/a gas envelope) Amps down to 7(inverter won't go lower) Melt lead filler into weld pool similar to traditional lead welding Remembering to Scrape not brush surfa...

Re: time capsules

Have got a plan! Fabricated highh density polyethylene box with items in seperate bags, argon purge, seal. Stainless steel box inset lid purge, then welded except lid. Lid off, wrap hdpe box in heatproof mat(not sourced yet). Inset lid back in(not sure if purge now needed as the seam is upstanding from...

Re: time capsules

Hi, Have not figured out what the atmospheric conditions will be inside the box.But now I have been told it is going to be 100 years the box is going to be 3mm(1/8) 316 sealed by welding, then covered in code 8(3.5mm) lead sheet lap welded all round. I am wondering if the heat generated by the final...

time capsules

Hello I have been asked to fabricate a time capsule which would be underground for 50 years. I am thinking that stainless steel would be the right material to use(316),but am a little unsure as to whether an argon purge when fully sealing it would do in removing the oxygen. Or would silica gel type ...

Re: lead welding with tig

Thank you Mike, Have also tried on straight polarity and this works also. The lead needs a good scraping first and I reckon that I could be running at 10 amps or less (although my transtig has a percentage of amps rather than exact amps) Not sure how much call there is for lead welding in usa,not muc...
