Distortion videos
I know the distortion videos is going to be a series but are you going to cover how to straighten distorted metal, rather than just mitigating it? I've heard alot of things from heating it up to cherry red and letting it cool slowly to welding gussets and pulling it...all kinds of stuff.

I have a few facebook friends that are "special class welders" fancy words for pipe only, their motto is "If it aint round, i aint hanging round" These guys have a 1 chance failure rate. Fail one, youre on warning, fail again and your gone. No wonder they whinge about shitty fit...

Re: Overhead open root plate test help
Hi I to was having that problem but I found that 1/8 root face and 3/32 root opening will not get the wright penetration. Even my instructor ask wbat the plate was set to. Reset the plate to 3/32 root face and 3/32 root opening worked fine. Sometimes it's just that simple. Everybody moves at a diff...

Re: Overhead open root plate test help
Alexa is spot on about watching the end of the rod because the toughest part of sticking a root pass in is judging how far to stick the rod in. Just for fun I have had some of my students lower the plate and put the root in from the bottom while watching it from the top. It gives a different perspe...

Re: 6010 Open Root on Pipe
The whip and pause is usually what you start with. The drag technique is a little more advanced. With the whip and pause you have more control over the penetration because you can see the keyhole and watch it fill in. If you just let the rod burn into the landing you wont penetrate all the way. You ...

Re: My little welding table
Nice looking table. I'd keep an eye out for some thicker top material though, you know there will be "that one day" when you need to do something that will mess that 3/16" up... ;) I think 3/16" would be fine for the top as long as it had plenty of support underneath it. Not to ...

I think that this idea is brilliant, but very expensive.
Now, if a fellow made something similar, would that be a patent violation?
Pretty sure it's only a patent violation if you sell it or otherwise make money on it. Least in the States.

Re: AWS D 1.1 Weld Cert
I suppose the caveat here, is this may be a qualification test for a WPS based on AWS D1.1, rather than an actual certification. The other option is the guy who wrote the qualification parameters was working from (faulty) memory. I'd have to dig more than I care to, to discover the variances allowe...

Wanna run vertical down? Get some 6010 or 6011.
