Re: Chicago Electric

don't buy one of those harbor freight pieces of junk unless you only plan on using it once because that is all it will last. For 300 dollars you will probably have to look for a used machine. Good luck

Re: weave or bead what?

Weaving is just moving the electrode using different techniques. Stringer beads are just dragging the electrode.

Re: Buzzbox upgrade?

The only time that you need AC is if you have electrodes that require it. You also don't get magnetic arc blow with AC while you do with DC.

Re: Hello from Georgia

If you are using 7014 rods then your amperage should be from 105-115. Try that out

Re: lincoln tombstone ac only

I have an old buzzbox that only does AC. I bought some 7018AC rods and it seems to come out looking just as good as with DC. Try it out.

Re: Buzzbox upgrade?

It depends what you are doing with it. If you use the welder a lot then i would go with a new welder. You lincoln buzzbox only does AC I'm assuming so getting a new welder would give you the option of AC and DC. Before investing more money into your old machine i would search around for a good deal....

Re: porosity in mig weld

The main cause of porosity in mig welding is lack of shielding gas. If you are not getting shielding gas then this may be your problem. Another possible cause of porosity is the surface condition of the metal. If the surface of the metal is rusted that could also cause porosity. As for as the ground...

Re: My first welds

What you need to remember is to be slow and steady. If you are using 7018 you can drag the electrode. If you keep the arc tight and go slow and steady you will eventually be making nice beads. For 7018 100 to 120 should be good on the amperage depending on the thickness.Good luck.
