Looking for some super alloys
I was wondering if anyone knows of a place I could buy some scrap Inconel X750 or small quantities of it. Rene 41 is another option.

Thanks Andersk, it has been too long. There is a lot to catch up on.
Since you like things that explode you might like this one. Has nothing to do with welding though. These are some six inch shells from a New Years shoot.

Re: The what I welded today (/whenever) thread (pics please)
I haven't been around much lately due to some health reasons havent done any welding. Only did one project in months and it was my daughters new launch pad. Amazing how out of practice I was, felt like a beginner again and was shaky as hell. I got it done except blast deflector we designed not made ...

Re: Welding Rod Question
Yeap, thread revival. I spend most of the day yesterday making more PVC tubes for my tig rods....so far, it's not looking good. BUT, I do need to run to Lowes and pick up more stuff, lol. All stuff I've been collecting since 2009. LOL never stops does it. So Oscar how many TIG tubes you up to now a...

Re: Let's see your TIG rod storage setup pics
This contains most common stuff I use. Big tubes hold 10lbs steel and stainless, 5 lbs if filled with aluminium. The small tubes hold around 2lbs to 1lbs depending on material. Don't have pic of the other rod storage on phone but looks similar only mounted to wall. Each tube labeled with specific al...

kiwi2wheels, yep that's what I was talking about. Their description is a lot better than mine on what's going on. Explains the crappy performance from cheap import tungstens that are prolly caused by poor quality control of the mixture and maybe even the purity of their base components.

Might want to read up on Thorium before you lump it into cancer cause from hearsay info. Living might also be hazardous to ones health! I'm not concerned with all the scares I use 2% thoriated on steel. I like the way it performs and will continue to use it. I use 2% lanthanated on aluminium holds ...

Re: Heavier Filler Rod Harder to Control
Feeding rod is an important thing to learn. Even when building up or fixing cracks on case repairs, made from aluminium and magnesium, where it's in small area I have to feed rod. It's not a long run, but small local area. Also different joint configurations on tubing have you have to push rod in pu...

Did they give you any info on advantages of the 4% thoriated over 2%. I wonder does the oxides just deteriorate slower than 2%. Might be useful with the smaller diameter tungstens. Typical dip before I wear it out.

Re: Heavier Filler Rod Harder to Control
Personally I found the thicker stiffer rods more stable. The 1/8, 3/32, and 1/16 doesn't osculate no where near as much as the .035 and .045 does. Your movements currently are prolly jerky when feeding the rod. As time goes on you will delvelope a method of feeding that will be comfortable, smoother...

I just can't fathom what advantages this process really has over others. I don't know much about process other than videos and few things a read about it. Only advantages I can see personally is that you don't need shielding gas, no filler, and lower temperature reduces distortion since it doesn't a...

Re: Cup Size???
Larger cup not gonna hurt anything just creates larger inert atomsphere around weld. It can help give you better color on welds do to coverage staying on area until it cools longer as you move. However larger cups require more flow and if weld doesn't really need the extra coverage it's just a waste...

Upon first glance I noticed oxy rods have more elements added to them. The Silicon % of oxy rods similar to ER70-S6 and it has aluminium added to it similar to S2. Oxy rods add copper to mix which is absent in ER70 mix along with nickel and Molybdenum. Just my observations I will continue to use my ...

Re: Beginner question regarding filler rod
Harris website does list W1060 (RG45) and W1200 RG60 for GTAW. I never have thought much about it but it is acceptable apparently to use these fillers with TIG. Personally my goto steel filler is ER70-S2 it's what I keep on hand for 4130 and works great for most steels. However if RG45 or RG60 meet ...

Re: Tig t joint nickel base alloy
Bead looks very wide with another pass over it. Second pass looks like a wash to attempt to smooth out weld. as wide as the bead looks would say arc length is way too long spreading out arc so your not able to focus arc in root. This also causes voltage to increase and puts excessive heat into part....

Re: How to get a quote from Jody?
Some head work actually has epoxy applied to ports to aid in achieving desired flow. This could possibly be done to your head to repair it. These epoxies are not the cheap cure all JB weld type stuff. Suggest contacting a good motor designer/builder that specializes in custom blocks and heads. Place...

As for the collets working with your gas lens depends. If you have stubby gas lens kit or regular kit. If you bought a stubby lens you will need a shorter collet. Here is a picture of a regular 17 collet the long one and a stubby collet for a 17 the short one. The stubby is a wedge collet in this ca...

4130 tube to 4130 plate with ER70-S2 would be better
I hope this isn't a mounting plate for a cage are a high stressed joint. 4130 to stainless if I had to would use 309sli, 309l or 309 depending on application might refuse to do it.
