Re: Help to minimize additional work

Well Bill, it's not a single somebody. It's about 30-40 somebodys and about 40,000 mhrs and there is definitely a big difference in the amount of repair required based upon the welder doing the work but I can't control who the yard is putting on what project. Steve, I've thought about some sort of m...

Re: Help to minimize additional work

I appreciate that suggestion. The yard tested a not yet released plasma gouging system from Hypertherm for this scope but I believe it was manual and their complaint (in addition to the cost) was that the person gouging could not see where one plate ended and the deck plate began. I've gouged at hom...

Re: Help to minimize additional work

OK, I know that carbon arc gouging is the standard method for removing welds. The problem is that I am at the end of a two month scope at one of the US' largest fabrication yards, which consists primarily of removing welded steel structure from the deck of a vessel. The amount of additional time spe...

Help to minimize additional work

Howdy from the coastal bend of Texas. I have a little problem that i run into frequently in my line of work and I would like to hear some suggestions on how I might lessen the amount additional work associated with removing one welded plate from another. Let me first explain the scenario. If I have ...

Re: Hobart Handler 140 or Tweco Fabricator 141i

Anatorcha, I think you are replying to my question of which is better 90amp 3/32" 7018 or 140amp 0.035" E70S6. So what you're saying is that stick welding is much better for homeowner grade outdoor welding and that flux core should be reserved for professional applications, Correct? Well I...

Re: Hobart Handler 140 or Tweco Fabricator 141i

Hey Gamble, I watched your unboxing video on YouTube and was wondering if there was a review coming as well. Id be glad to hear any other observations about the 141i, especially downsides. Have you tried CO2 MIG and if so does the inductance control help reduce spatter?
Thanks

Re: Hobart Handler 140 or Tweco Fabricator 141i

Thanks, y'alls experience with the multi machines has convinced me. I guess I undervalued the benefits of having the other processes, so I'm buying the Tweco. Also I really wanted to learn the other processes anyway. BTW can someone enlighten me as to why stick welding is favored more than FCAW for ...

This place needs an Engineer

Someone has to temper all of this "practical experience" and "first hand knowledge" floating around here with some good old book learnin'. I'm a engineer, 10yrs out (WHOOP!), mostly structural but kinda naval arch and mech as well. I have practical experience as an electronics te...

Re: Hobart Handler 140 or Tweco Fabricator 141i

Thanks John, glad to be a part of this forum. I am mostly looking at using the machine for around the house projects: building a pipe fence approx 500ft, fixing small tractor stuff, building / repairing things for friends. I've got experience (not enough) on miller machines, and they make me confide...

Hobart Handler 140 or Tweco Fabricator 141i

Hey all, Brand new to the forum and I am excited to have access to the knowledge of people more experienced than me about selecting welding equipment. I'm about to buy my first welder for use at home and I'm conflicted. Previously I was set on the Hobart handler 140, read all about it, was sure it w...
