Re: new TIG machines at differenet price points.
My advise would be to buy the best machine you can afford, miller, Hobart, etc. don't waste your money on the '' made in china'' welder, you wont be satisfied with the results and you wont know if its the machine or you that is the bad results....................ron

Re: Welding 16 gauge metals
to weld ss without warping, try using the following; the joint fitup must be tight,no gaps.(metal to metal).next, use a lot of small tacks,(no filler metal) aprox. 1/2 to1 in. apart. Next, use the backstep method, or skip around welding small areas ,aprox. one to two in., and keep cool in between blo...

Re: lead welding with tig
welding lead using the tig process is possible, but the amperage must be quite low.You can fuse it, or use filler wire made from strips of the base metal. The best way to weld it is flat with a backing.I.E.steel, copper, brass, etc. For best results, clean the joint and filler rod , scrape or wire b...

Re: TIG tube welding
A 1'' schd. 160 Inconel pipe is not a joint for beginners, because of the following; Inconel has a tendency to have crater cracks, that is when cracks occur at the end of a weld segment.to eliminate this problem, taper you'r stops slow.Another problem is that Inconel welds dirtier than other metals ,...

Re: stainless steel butt welds (photos)
nice job, I have been a nuclear pipe weldor , and a nuclear inspector for many year, and your welds are as good as any I have seen. Having said that, I would like point out a couple of areas that you might take into consideration; 1, excessive cover pass reinforcement. 2, excessive root reinforcemen...

Re: Some Help With Aluminium Fillet Welds
not sure, but I think if acetone fumes come in contact with your weld arc, it produces phosgene gas,(deadly). Also, try welding al. using DC STRAIGHT POLARITY and 100% helium for a shielding gas,and a pointed 2% thoriated tungsten if you have the equipment to do so....hope this helps.....ron . PS. ac...

Re: Setting up for back purge
I have welded many ss exhaust pipe for cars and bikes using the tig process,I have welded same with and without back purging. Many factory welds are done without back purging, so my advise to you would be to weld without back purging,''but'',I would suggest that you practice on some scrap pieces befo...

Re: TIG Wire Comparison
I have welded hundreds , if not thousands of pipe joints ,such as open root, closed root, backing ring,E.B.rings, socket, and varies other joint types, using 70s2,70s4,and 70s6.There are slight differences, but not enough to effect the end results, such as x-ray,m.t.,p.t., or u.t.....As far as the excess...

Re: How do you weld thin tube aluminum to thick aluminum pla
try directing most of the heat on the thickest material, using the shortest arc possible. You can also use 3/32in. thoriated tungsten and grind to a point, this directs the heat in a smaller area. You can also try dcsp ( direct current straight polarity) and thoriated tungsten (2%) ground to a point,...

Re: Need some 3/32 6013 on 1/2 in plate.
my experience using 3/32 6013 is for thin metal, not for 1/2 in. steel. I would recommend 6010 1/8 inch for the root pass and finish using 7018 1/8. or, use 6010 for the complete job.(METAL MUST BE CLEAN AND DRY IF YOU USE 7018 WIRE.)
