Re: Stocked TIG Rod
I can only speak for the industries I am involved in (petrochemical and energy). 1/8 comes in handy for filler passes in big pipes. It is not unusual to do fill passes at 250+ amps. Most guys have found that it is faster to weld pipe up to 8-10" all tig instead of tig + smaw. Contrary to what y...

Re: Stocked TIG Rod
When it becomes available locally I'll be getting 4943 for aluminum. That might be awhile before it becomes in wide use if ever. My LWS never heard of it when I explained benefits the rod supposed to have it didn't really sink in. To me there attitude is 4043 has worked all this time why do we need...

Is there any chance you could post a video?
A 3mm puddle is not small by any means.
When you weld steel on DC is everything alright or do you still get the same problems with smoke / powder etc?

Re: Who else works 6 and 7 day weeks?
I try not to but there are some times of the year where an oil refinery has a 20-30 day shut down and I have to work there 12 hour days for the duration. Also I teach some of the modules on the IWE (International Welding Engineer) courses so again during that time I also have to work during the week...

Re: What am i doing wrong?
Like AndersK said ditch the pulse for now. Also 1.6mm is too small for 120A AC. If you have an inverter throw away that zirconiated tungsten, it is by far the worst I have tried. On second thought, throw it away anyway Try and get some 2.4mm blue (2% lanthanated) tungsten if you have an inverter or ...

Exactly.
Actually putting too much pressure when walking the cup in a mistake everyone makes at the beginning.

How to clean clear welding lenses
I have a tip some may find useful on how to get a little more life out of your plastic clear welding lenses. I recently acquired a mig welder and compared to tig or stick it messes up with my speedglas outer lenses a lot faster. I had a special paste to polish the plastic crystal on some of my watch...

I am not familiar with that particular welder but I recall it has something to do with the blue lightning settings.
Maybe someone that owns one of these miller welders will comment.

Thanks for the info.
Great work. PVC is rarely used in houses here. If someone were to build something like what is in your pic it would be out of marble with a price to match of course.

Re: wife wants matching coffee table
Great then you are the man to ask. I am torn between metal and wood. I prefer the way wood looks but I am afraid it will require more maintenance. I feel more comfortable working with metal but the square tubing I am looking at (100x20mm ~ 4"x5/8") comes only up to 1.5mm thickness. Usually...

Re: wife wants matching coffee table
I have not tried it when tig welding. Only when stick welding so far. It works surprisingly well, I place the nozzle 15-20cm away from the weld and it sucks all the fumes from stick welding. I have a Speedglas 9100FX Adflo which is my favorite welding hood which I use when Tig welding. However the f...

Thanks guys. Yes, it is an ESG Orbitalum tungsten grinder. As far as next projects, at the time I do not have anything in the works right now. Probably I will start building the vertical posts for the fence of my new house. However for the next couple of months my free time will be limited since the...

Re: Fcaw-g vs mig uphill
Lol, that's the name of the game. I welded a killer overhead pass with fcaw-g testing a new wire for P91 material and if you saw it you would think I knew what I was doing. Hint: this was the first time I welded with flux core in my life.

Re: Hardfacing/surfacing
"Flux cored without gas is (DC-)" First the flux coating creates the gas shielding therefore it is not without gas. Also, there are self-shielded wires (no pressurized gas assistance) that run on DCEP and DCEN. Flux cored without external gas shielding. Better now? If you want to get tech...

Re: Hardfacing/surfacing
Lincore 60-G is a FCAW-G type of wire meaning it is Gas Shielded Flux Cored wire (or dual shield as you guys call it)
So if you are trying using it without gas it is normal you are having problems.
Mig/mag and dual shield is DC(+)
Flux cored without gas is (DC-)
