Re: The what I welded today (/whenever) thread (pics please)

Finished up my first for pay arbor/trellis. It was my first project with my new blue 211 MIG (transformer version). Most of it is 1" sq, 1" bar and 1/4" rod hrs. The rod I bent in circles using a plywood template (PITA). I've already got an order for another of similar design and I wo...

Re: TIG Welding at home

I have all kinds of analog and digital stuff around the house - its what I do. There no obvious issues. I did, however, have my mains and breaker panel redone and have a new ground field of three rods plus a ground rod for the garage door steel (all shunted together). If you have a properly wired an...

Re: Back purge question

Don't mean to butt in but aren't kegs made of aluminum not stainless why would there be any sugaring? Both. All my kegs are SS. In all the micro/nano breweries I've toured, they had either SS or plastic (for house use only). Alum kegs are like the ugly step children of kegs - they can't take a beat...

Never ever ever rest the point of a newly sharpened (hot) tungsten on your finger, or leg or your palm. All accidents of course. :o

Re: TIG welding shock absorber

+1 what Len said and the gas inside it is nitrogen. It doesn't leek as fast as plain old air and is very stable volume wise with temperature swings. For the same reasons this gas is good for using in your car tires. It isn't flammable.

Re: Pyrex Mig Nozzle

Yea - get that patent app in and maybe consider crowd-sourcing the initial startup - with kickstarter or something. I'd surely invest in that. I can see where I'd be able to use that now and then in really tight spaces when you just can't see the arc.

Re: Caution Tig Welding leads to collecting parts

My wife made me come here for support. I have a problem that I'm honestly not really ashamed of. It started with just a toe in the water with an old Lincoln 110v FCAW. That was upgraded to mig and sold. Got a Millermatic 211 but that wasn't enough. I just couldn't stop. My LWS had some inexpensive c...

Congrats on your new purchase. Now practice the required mantra with me: "My name is _____ and I'm a Tigaholic. I can't stop buying more stuff for my Tig habit." There isn't a cure other than an empty wallet.

Re: Jody's welding cart project.

Going back over Jody's videos (something I do often) he talks about the cart dimensions and scratches up a drawing. The risers are 38". 10" for the tanks. The center tray is probably down 19" from the top (1" more than half). His back wheels are 10" solid rubber mounted clos...

Re: Advice on buying a Mig

I wouldn't bother with a multi process MIG like the 210mp unless really to use the other modes, usually you sacrifice something in the process. Check the duty cycles on the machines you are looking at. I just pulled that trigger using the same wisdom. I already have a great TIG/Stick machine and al...

Re: wheel for descaling hot roll steel.

I've tried the Norton RapidStrip and Norton Blaze wheels - both are great. The Blaze is orange and more expensive so I only use it when the scale is really nasty. As said before, watch the edges with any of these types of wheels.

Hi from Centennial Colorado

Started welding in high school back when I lived on farms and ranches in northern WY. More off than on since then. Now that I can afford my own equipment I'm off to the races. Just starting TIG and I've got a few projects lined up. Practice practice practice... Shopping for drops - not as easy as it...
