Re: Tungsten grinding
That is a good guide but they don't say use this tungsten for transformer type machines and this type for Inverter machines like green color end (pure) tungsten's do not work on Inverter machines. Tungsten that work well on inverters do not work well on transformer machines. Grind to a point works o...

So you are saying you like the Alustar over the other tungsten's even thought you are out of practice it helps?
Nice welds for no practice.

Re: Unweldable cast? Bad settings? Wrong process?
I have welded a lot case parts cars and truck manly the motors with cracks some farm equipment and found that aluminum bronze A2 works the best clean the metal and put a chamfer on it and Tig weld it ACHF or DCSP using a 2% Thoriated tungsten.

Re: Tungsten's for Aluminum Tig Welding Alustar by Wolfram
I will never go back to 2% Ceriated, 2% Lanthanated, 2%Thoriated or E3 unless the aluminum work is dirty and I can't get it clean will not use the Alustar use the cheaper tungsten's. Just finish another 25 tanks and only touched the tungsten once with the welding rod when it hit my chair and pushed ...

Re: Tungsten's for Aluminum Tig Welding Alustar by Wolfram
I have great luck with Alustar on my Dynasty 400 and like I said it was recommended by Wolfram Germany the Wolfram trimix will work on everything but I weld 99% aluminum Mig or Tig when you have invested a lot of money in welders that do what you do the most of it pay off my Miller AlumaPower 350MPa...

Re: Tungsten's for Aluminum Tig Welding Alustar by Wolfram
I was emailing Manuel Mar - Product & Project management at www.wolfram-industrie.de and his email was (mar@wolfram-industrie.de) I told him that I had a Dynasty 400 and all the different setting I was using, he said that should work just fine and it has been. I use WS2 WITSTAR for all my other ...

The CK230 is a little bigger handle but the head is almost the same size, I would send pictures but I have not figured out how to do that yet.

Re: Tungsten's for Aluminum Tig Welding Alustar by Wolfram
You can ask Wolfram Industrie (info@wolfram-industrie.net) in Germany or (AR@Diamondground.com) in the USA for a sample Alustar tungsten. I do not know how your machine setting are compared to my Miller Dynasty 400. I use Triangle wave for .100" and under and .125" and up Advance wave my m...

Tungsten's for Aluminum Tig Welding Alustar by Wolfram
I have been welding aluminum dry sump oil tanks for Ford GT's now for over 5 years each tank has 5 meters or 16.6 feet of welding. I tried every tungsten on the market and plus some then I asked Wolfram Industries in Germany for a sample of the Alustar tungsten made for ONLY TIG welding aluminum. I ...

I use both most of the time it is with gas but if I am outside and it is windy I will us the flux core because the gas keeps getting blown off the work.

Re: Who welds at 3 Amps DC or 5 Amps AC
Titanium Exhaust 1.jpg Titanium Exhaust 2.jpg IMHO the trick is not so much being able to start at 1 amp (to throuw out a number), but to maintain a stable arc at low numbers after it has started. This means you can for instance back off on the power (eg. via foot pedal) way back while keeping the ...

Re: Who welds at 3 Amps DC or 5 Amps AC
Gizmo, I would like to see the thread you might possibly be referring to. I have welded, sorry fused, at 5-10 amps DC but it is VERY rare and I don't remember the thickness of the material. I believe it was 20 something gauge. Welcome to the forum also. -Jonathan No I was asking as a general questi...

Re: Wondering where to buy a machine.
I just bought the Everlast Power Tig 255EXT, I had a 400 lbs. red machine before but it in the back collecting dust the 255EXT is a very nice machine for the money and it has all the bells and whistles not no extra cost also my hydro bill is a lot lower not using the 100 amp fuses now on 40 amp 240V...

Re: Who welds at 3 Amps DC or 5 Amps AC
Who welds at 3 Amps DC or 5 Amps AC in the normal world I see that the most welder go that low but why do you need it just to say you can. You need least 12 to 20 Amps AC to weld a pop can or aluminum rad core. Welding 3 Amps DC just get the .010 steel hot enough not to touch but not hot enough to ...
