Re: First whip and pause beads

Jody has a few good videos on 6010.
I was told a good rule of thumb is each whip up and back to the puddle should only take about a second. Don't know if it's true or not, but seemed to work for me.

Re: Amperage for pipe welding

^ Same machine. We were using 1/8 gap and land, and were told to run like 55-70 amps, which I thought was supposed to be way to cold, but that's how we did it. I tended to run on the higher side of things. I went even hotter if I was trying the "bury rod" method. Sent from my SM-T537R4 usi...

Re: Backwelding pipe

On steel, to get root reinforcement on the back with the lay wire, I have to slightly shove the filler into the puddle. Takes a lot of practice (I need more) and many tungsten resharpenings later, but eventually you'll get it. I have no experience with through the pipe, but would like to try one day...

I don't know how I missed that.
His are Pyrex also. But you can get the BBW cup with the protector on it. Looks nice.

I've been poking around Instagram a bit and furick cups are being shown a lot with very positive feedback. Lots cheaper than others too Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk The guy that makes them is Michael Furick. But I can't find any info on them. Sent from my SM-T537R4 using Tapatalk Edit: Haha f...

Re: Tig welding aluminum questions......

I haven't done any aluminum yet.
But from what think, dsmabe pretty much hit it right on. Especially the torch angle part.
A pic is worth a thousand words.

Re: Hi freq or downhill at Tws

So apparently we can do both, but it's not the whole shebang of both, and still crammed into 3 weeks.
Can also do one, then come back for help on the other.
I'm going to do HF. But im fairly tied down, so pipeline traveling doesn't interest me that much.

Re: Portable SawMill

A video I watched on the wood mizer, he was using washer fluid to keep from freezing, and plain water when it was warmer.
Also the same videos, the machine had a gauge showing blade tension. Which is a good indicator of blade temp.

Re: Need help on research paper

I think to be successful you have to have a passion for welding.
From what I've seen/heard, you never stop learning new things as you go.
But currently I'm just in school also.

Re: Removing Broken Skid Plate Bolt

Yeah, I've never had any luck with "easy outs." More like break off and piss you offs. Lol Idea behind left hand drill bits is it may catch and turn out. If it's not a blind hole, a normal drill could spin it on through also. (Long as no shank or shoulder is left) I've heard good things ab...

And yeah, if the wheels can be bought cheaper than your time and money to build them, by all means.

That's cool. Those 3 cylinder are efficient and don't use much gas.
You could make your own wheels with some big diameter pipe.

I get using a smaller engine to save space and weight, but why not a smaller diesel? A 4bt Cummins may be a bit big, but there's other options.

Pretty cool. Was watching some videos on the tube of the wood-mizer. Thing is sweet.
Not too horrible on price, but the DIY route would be better for personal use.
Imo, the wood-mizer is better for selling wood for profit.

To me it's dumb that we can't do both.
I think I'll rephase and do both.
Personally I think it's better to have both.
