Re: Is this flux core wire suitable?
The manual for my MIG machine suggests special drive rollers for flux core wire- and the company doesn't sell them. One of the technical guys on their forum suggested using the solid wire drive rollers for flux core wire, which seems to work fine. You might give that a try, just to save the expense ...

The only tip/trick i can offer is to wear your PPE. For the longest time i've had a fear of one of those 3/64ths slitting disks turning to shrapnel. That fear came true while using a disk and it pretty much exploded, i took two to the face shield i was wearing.

Re: Plasma cut /gouge and cast iron
Cast iron is outside my experience, but I'll jump in to possibly provide some clarity. Olek, please check me: it sounds like Olek is repairing a crack in cast iron, and asking what method he can use to grind out the crack. He uses the phrase "white hardened iron" (which returns no hits in ...

Re: Problem with my machine
Welcome to the forum! Your machine is capable of either gas shielded MIG (solid wire) and self shielded flux core welding. The machine's electrical polarity needs to be set up differently for each process: EP electrode positive for solid wire, and EN electrode negative for flux core. First thing to ...

Hey, JetMech, welcome! Good on ya for learning TIG! The welding variables that affect steel (such as arc length and torch angle) have an even bigger effect on aluminum. It's definitely possible to learn on aluminum, but you may find the learning curve a bit steeper. Taking your questions in order......

What is your voltage setting? The Miller weld calculator,

...says wire feed speed for 3/16" steel is should be at 320-340 inches per minute. I just guessed 3/16"- what's the actual thickness?

Olek, long posts are fine as long as they are about welding. This thread started because of some needlessly abusive posts, and that problem has been resolved.

I've never done aluminum MIG so i'm out of my depth, but- the OP gave 35 cfm as the argon rate. That seems high- is 35 in the right range?
(I checked the Miller weld calculator but it didn't give a flow rate.)

Re: total newb question
Welcome to the forum! Homeboy pretty much nailed it, but i'll add a detail or two. Broadly speaking there are two types of wire-feed welding, determined by the type of wire you use. Solid wire welding, often called MIG, uses shielding gas (such as argon-co2 in various mixtures, or just plain co2) to...

Finding an exact replacement may be difficult. If you find a pedal with the right ohms you may need to fit it with the right ...
