Re: Its Green.
BTW. Green is not thoriated. It's pure tungsten. It won't hurt the machine-but it's not fun to weld with. Green tungsten likes to form a large round ball on the tip. That negates the advantages of an inverter welder.

Re: TIG Machine Recommendation for Hobbyist
You don't mention your budget, or the available space you have. I would personally look for a used Syncowave 250. There are a lot of them out there at reasonable prices. They do a good job at both tig and stick. And, being a transformer machine-they last forever.

Re: TIG welder at work - who gets to use it?
You answered your question in your opening post. You stated there was not a lot of tig work, and that they usually got you to do it. So-limit the use of the Dynasty to yourself. Simple enough. And keep that thing covered when not in use. Those circuit boards don't like dust.

A lot of good advice in these replies. I do mostly aluminum and love it. The first thing I would do in your place is lower the frequency to 100. I find that helps on outside corners.

I like the CK Flex Lock with the super flex cables. I have both the air cooled and the water cooled for my Dynasty. I like how you can set the torch head at whatever angle you need to get access to the joint,

Re: Completely new to welding-my introduction and questions
Can I use a mig with 120v to weld this stuff? I would like to just plug it into the wall at my house and go to town. Also, will a DC welder do ok? A 120 volt mig would not be a good choice for your needs. Those little things just don't have enough power. In your case, I would recommend that you buy...

Re: Stubby gas lens is giving "meh" looking welds
It's pretty simple. You keep a slight torch angle and weld toward you. With a slight tilt to the torch, and I emphasize slight, you can see the tungsten fine. You only need the long stick out on constricted areas. Your stick outs on a lap joint are excessive and are compromising you gas shielding. H...

Re: Stubby gas lens is giving "meh" looking welds
Ok! It's a simple lap joint. There is no need for that excessive stick out. Try going to 1/8 stick out with 18 - 20 cfh. You are getting your cup too far away from the joint for good gas coverage. I would also go to 3/32" tungsten. That is my go to size. Hope this helps! This is based on the #8...

Re: New to TIG - Any amperage and the aluminum is destroyed
Ok! I'm lost here. How do you put a collet in pointed the wrong way? It will only fit in the collet body one way. The collet body will only fit in the torch one way. I'm lost on what you did.

Re: Tig welding stainless fittings to small diameter tubing
Since argon is heavier than air-if you can make a quick fixture to hold the tubing, and slightly elevate the open end-it will allow the argon to displace the air quicker with less argon used. Hope this helps.

When I bought my Dynasty 200, I had to supply my own plug. The instructions I got from Miller were pretty easy. Green wire to green terminal. White wire to silver colored terminal. Black wire to brass or copper colored terminal. Red wire to be taped off. Red wire is only used if wiring for three-pha...

Re: Which ac/dc machine to get
I would recommend the Lincoln Squarewave. It has more amps than the Miller Diversion. I had the Diversion at one time, it's a good machine, but you can't change the torch without a major hassle. If you are only using the machine for hobby welding-then you shouldn't have a problem with the duty cycle...

I'm looking for an inexpensive, lightweight, dual voltage (110 or 220) stick welder that can be carried up and down ladders easily. It won't be used for anything heavy but it does need to be reliable. Any suggestions would be very helpful! I bought the new Miller Thunderboult 210. I was looking for...

Re: New Tig Hood questions
I have both the Esab A50, and the Optrel E684. They are both great hoods. They are both very clear and have a large viewing area. The Optrel is better for tig due to it's auto adjustment feature. Both have the same downside-the unique outer cover lens.

Re: Wicked thin AL welding
Does the 200dx have the triangular wave form? That will help with thin Al. Also using the pulsar can reduce heat input I don’t believe so. I think it was not until the 210dx that the SD card slot became available and software updates were possible. At least mine (200dx) doesn’t  Your Dynasty s...

Re: Tungsten rod position
I generally keep my tungsten stickout to about 1/8" unless I am trying to get into a hard to reach spot. That allows me to see the tungsten position in relation to the puddle. If I need a longer stickout, then I will switch to a gas lense with a larger cup. Hope this helps.

Re: Jumbo Gas lens versus Medium gas lens dillema!
The larger ones he doesn’t so I assumed the #8 cups fit the same description. I guess I was mistaken. That’s because there’s not really a needed application for a 12/16 cup with aluminum like there is for Ti or Stainless; which is the intended market for his Fupa, Moose and BBW. Even so, you can us...

Some one is trying to make their own cup, I see! Let's see pics!! I'm a machinist as well as a welder. The machining time to make an insulator-much cheaper to buy one. Just my opinion.
