Most fully configured plasma cutting benches have significant forced downdraft ventilation that filters and exhausts air and generated gases.

The intention is that the operator is not exposed to any of the residual fumes.

Are you using such a configuration?

I'm not running mixed DC/AC but am interested in your other settings

Your AC is 250Hz, Square, 62.5% EN - OK

What is the switching frequency of the DC to AC?

Are you running EN in the DC part of the cycle?

200 Amps on a 1/8" electrode should be OK.

What gas? Is it a Argon/Helium mix?

Simon, I'm interested. What lead to the decision to use 316 as a filler for this job?

When I trained, I generally undertook 2-hour sessions then a break, then another 2 hours, etc

Now, when I weld, many times I might work much longer than two hours in any one hit. Whatever the job takes. But initially, 2 hours at a time was a reasonable exposure.

Do take heed from the others comments. No one wants to dampen your enthusiasm, but there's a lot to learn before you dive in the deep end. Small steps my friend. Stainless can be tricky with HAZ and cracks in the weld if not done exactly right.

Kym Definitely look for a 4-sensor job TIG welding can cause all sorts of things to get between the arc and the sensors (gloves, arms, etc) and knock out the dimming. Multiple sensors overcome that. The repair looks substantial, there has probably been some annealing that has occurred, but it sure will hold. Interestingly, the vice in the picture looks like it's done some hard labor ( )
