Any criticism of my weld?

I trying to practice some tig in the garage an thought i would ask what some real welders think. Im working on 1/2" flat an I turned them to try an replicate a bevel. Im trying to practice open root tig. Since i don't have a pipe this is what i got. Since i don't have any back purge experience ...

Re: Meet and Greet at FABTECH 2014

That would be so cool! Last year my boss went to fabtech an told me that he'd take me then all the sudden I didn't get to go. Which sucked!!! I shouldn't have even got my hopes up cuz I know I was a pee on!!! Lol! I mean to be honest I thought the only reason he offered was cuz I was the only one in...

Re: Where to get a welding clamp/vice

We have them at school that basically are set up on a vertical pipe. Similar to the picture shown. But ours have a small piece of pipe that goes around the vertical pipe like a sleeve. Then a hole is drilled a nut is welded outside the hole a bolt put it an tightened. Some have a piece of flat welde...

I love this whole thread!!! I think that's so cool that another female is taking interest in welding. I have one female in my class at school. My niece actually wanted to try welding a month or two ago and that was really fun for me. She was so apprehensive cuz she was worried about burning up steel...

Im pretty sure the 210 is still a transformer. I almost bought one....and I don't think it's a bad machine at all. You have to buy the cards for DC pulse and AC but my buddy said there's all kinds of parameters u can download onto an extra disk which an empty card from miller was like 35$. An u can ...

Anyone know what to run this rod at?

Hey guys I got this rod from a buddy who had about 5lbs of i believe 1/16" 7010-A1. I think it's a Lincoln rod mainly cuz it has three green dots on it in the middle kinda like my excalibur. But they were NOT in a labeled container. An I can't seem to find anything on a 7010-A1 this size....mai...

Unfortunately Superior I've had some similar experience. I was told that these 3 guys were amazing welders and I saw their work and it was beautiful. But I had made the horrible mistake that I could ask them anything about any advice on how to better my abilities...An when I asked if I could just wa...

The only thing I'm aware of is make sure you aren't using a long lead...It's hard to push soft wire through a long mig lead. But I have seen the kit I think your talking about on the Home depot website I think...Well at least for some of the smaller mig machines that they sell and some that are slig...

Ideas for a Downhill Break test

I started my new welding task in school after completing a one chance only weld test...And I'm on a downhill 2' break test. I was kinda stuck using a different gas than I'm used to it was C10 and the machine has .045 70s6 wire....The machines are usually set up for spray but I'm supposed to be using...

That sounds like Sound advice Dave!....I might bring a couple pieces Monday from my house. An try that!! I'm working on mig now an have had a little trouble with my downhill Mig break test. But anyway I called the local steel supplier to ask how much this expensive steel was today...An found out it'...

Re: "Coking"

I was wanting to buy some of that aluminum tape too...That's what I've seen mostly as a go to instead of back purge. But it is stupid expensive! It's basically a strip of aluminum with an adhesive on the outside edges only....I saw a 75ft roll and asked how much it was...They said 75$ for a 25' roll...

Re: A quick question about a rod at school

They don't want us to do either of those...No multi-pass an No quenching....It's funny just cuz the way they want us to do it is make a weld....and wait 20 or so mins for it to completely cool....then take it to them and ask them about it...which they are usually just sitting in their office and one...

Re: A quick question about a rod at school

I just did the math....we went through 5 24' stick of flat steel....in 4 hrs between at least 30 guys in the booths...That does not seem like A LOT of steel to me. Considering we weld T's then weld t's together to stack em!!!

Re: Anyone One Know Input Power Specs on a Maxstar?

I mean I'd like to have a 3 phase outlet but idk what it takes as far as a new breaker box? Is that a better way to go? A 3phase 460v or just go with a single ph 230v?? What's funny is the website doesn't show the input power at max for the maxstar on the website...which I find weird. I only have ro...

Well buddy there is pretty much only Two kinds of machines Constant Current(CC) and Constant Voltage(CV). CC is the same machine really whether your talking Tig/stick...getting one that's not is really just hurting you. CV is pretty much anything wire feed only. There is another kind I think it's Ri...

A quick question About #9 torch

I have 2 #9 torches...1 was given to me an I think it's a CK...The second I know is CK...An I'd gotten a small say #6 pyrex cup with the stubby collet body...It has the screw on screen and the collet wedge. I had tried it once but I didn't have an insulator on my first unknown torch...So I bought a ...
