Weave Vs. Stringer

I was just curious as I have a new test coming up on a basic single bevel plate test I think it's 3/8" I've done quite a bit of 1/2" an figured no problem, but I'd watched Jody's videos on it and my instructor said that I'll have to do a 2 stringer root, and stringers all the way out. I'd ...

Re: Having some problems with destructive testing

Thanks Dave! I'm not a quitter, and no matter what I'll do what it takes to succeed at becoming a better than most welder. I'm not giving up ever even though it seems like some people in class are already kinda talking like they don't know if they wanna take the class anymore. I think the biggest sh...

Re: Having some problems with destructive testing

I'm still kinda hoping that the schooling gets better myself. I got the weekend off obviously but I'm trying to make use of my time and just trying to memorize and take notes to help me get thru this semesters GMAW welds. I guess since I've never done a great deal of it just seems so foreign...The s...

Re: Having some problems with destructive testing

OMG!! I can understand that! My instructors can't or won't really answer any of my questions really it's weird I'm trying to learn but I'm just not getting anywhere. After listening to all this advice I actually passed my break test! Which made me pretty happy after working all day yesterday with no...

Re: Having some problems with destructive testing

Well I have been reading every piece of information I can find and it sounds a lot like my voltage is high but what either could be screwing me is wire speed. Cuz from what I understand the more wire you get hitting your work piece the lower your machine will drop the amperage on the downslope so ev...

Re: what to wear to a welding job interview?

I'm kinda agreeing with Len. I'd dress like I was serious about the position. Wearing my best clothes an just trying to show that I really am trying to make a big effort to make that ever so important first impression. An when the interviewer says how are you today? I'll reply something like....Just...

Re: Miller Digital Elite vs Miller Platinum series

Yeah I'd like one of those auto respirator systems and I thought one of those miller hood cooling systems would be cool but apart from not being cheap I imagine it would be pretty heavy! Idk the small cooling band was just under 200 bills I don't even wanna know about the other one. It's not that I'...

Having some problems with destructive testing

Hey guys I need some help. I've been welding for a couple years but have not done much mig welding. This summer I decided the job I'd chosen wasn't for me after a couple years an decided I'm going to welding school. Well I'm stuck on my destructive test on 3/32" steel...it's just mild steel. I'...

i might be stating the obvious but are u sharpening ur tip of ur tungsten the length of the electrode? if u grind em perpendicular they tend to wander more. As far as everything else u seem ok...except the heat on 3/8" steel.
