Re: Tungsten Sharpeners
Someone commented about welding with unsharpened tungsten...I've actually done that in a pinch but I only do it with 1/16" tungsten....Otherwise even with plenty of amps it still tends to wander with 3/32 or 1/8. Yeah I wonder how much them wheels are? Diamond Ground Products has a bunch of dia...

Re: clear (Pyrex?) TIG cups-opinions?
I have a couple Pyrex cups and Love em. I use em for all kinds of jobs, but a lot of people have negative opinions on them. I really like mine, and I've walked the cup quite a bit and used the heck out of em. Now what I did learn was they will break if they are really hot an say you smack something ...

Re: Quick ? on SS fill rod selection
The project I got is a SS tank for bead sealer...I did a valve swap off the bottom of one of these tanks a few months back. They do put a little pressure in them but nothing more than 10psi I don't think. I thought the 308L would be just fine, but my chart said it should be str8 308, and wondered if...

Re: how many passes
I definitely agree that what it takes is what it takes. It's better to just use smaller passes and just doing an extra pass or two. It'll help keep it uniform, and prevent lack of fusion as mentioned before.

Re: High pressure Hydraulic lines
What size are the lines? What kind of SS? What kind of pipe/tubing...(thickness, Outside Diameter, inside diameter)? I would definitely recommend TIG welding that kind of thing. It's the easiest way to get the best weld on hydraulic lines. I imagine your doing socket welds. You could also use Swagel...

Quick ? on SS fill rod selection
Hey guys I have all kinds of SS fill rod but it's ALL 308L/309/316L and I'm buying some 304 SS tomorrow....I can use 308L to weld that right?! Or do I need to get 308? I really don't wanna have to go buy more fill rod just for this job. But any expertise on this would be great. I normally use 304L s...

An $300 is a cheap one! I'm not gonna hate on it tho...I'd like to have one, but Idk they'd have to get much cheaper or I need to make more money before I ever own one. For 2 years all I used was a flap disc...as long as u put longitudinal scratches toward the tip. An just like Otto said a longer po...

Re: First Post - Buying a welder for shop
They dynasty is an excellent Stick machine....Just like Tig. If a 280 will do it...A 280 will do it. Just make sure it's a DX model to get all the good features....I actually did some pricing the other day on the internet. dynasty200dx W/water cooler/foot pedal/cart/torch $4995 280DX w/same setup $6...

I actually bought the little diamond wheel set from harbor freight a year or so ago and just found it this weekend an tried it on a drill. An even tho I don't buy much from that place I actually had good luck with it. It worked better than I thought. Really fast to...Plus I don't gotta worry about i...

Re: First Post - Buying a welder for shop
I think the dynasty would be the best bet! You have so much adjustment with them to tailor your arc just the way you need it! My friend has a shop with a Dynasty 350 and let me tell ya it's a beast! I mean it will weld most anything. It's a big $ investment but a good machine. But if you couldn't sp...

Re: Cor-Met TIG rods?
I guess you'd have to do it close to a flange or something so you could clean that slag out. I saw these to the other day an wondered if they'd work well...Then I remembered that the slag would be trapped in the pipe, and that would really limit it's uses I'd imagine???

Re: New Welder with a quick question
Idk about vertical up...I haven't done it in quite some time. I don't have my own mig welder just a tig/stick machine. Personally On something like 3/16" I run pretty hot like 22.5V and 396ipm on like a horizontal fillet. When I need to go a little slower like on a lap weld or I like these sett...

Is that Esab rod? It looks like it in the picture. I personally hate that rod, but I've seen some guys do real well with it. You don't look like your doing bad at all. Looks good to me. There are a couple spots that someone could probably nit pick, but not me man. Good work

There are too many variables that can give you problems welding...It's better to put your "best foot forward". So that you can effect the variables you can before you even get started.

You'll get better penetration if you put fuel in the tank! JUST KIDDING.....Thought that addition was funny...You know why we knew there wasn't fuel in it? Thanks guys...I'll try turning it up a bit tomorrow afternoon. I'll take a picture from the back when I'm done...I could probably do it now since I'm probably past the point of needing back purge. Oh and yes I was doing a hand weave....I found personally (not that I know anything) that I can key hol...

Re: Any criticism of my weld?
It's less than 90 degrees i knew i wanted 60 but to say it is 60 is probably a dubious proposition at best. Your probably right as far a it's probably off a lil bit. I did 3 more fill passes an I think I'll give it a rest for tonight. Oh Im also using 3/32 er70-s2
