Re: 2 X 72 Grinder

Actually, seeing your grinder inspired me to get off my butt and post my pics. The air cylinder is indeed a tensioning device. It is fed by a small regulator and in my case it is set to about 20 psi. The idea for the original grinder was discussed on another forum a few years ago. I freely admit to ...

Re: 308 SS to Cast iron

Here is a good reference for cast-iron welding: http://www.lincolnelectric.com/knowledge/articles/content/castironpreheat.asp I have repaired cast-iron by both methods mentioned. From what i see in your pic the method that I would elect to use would be a preheat. Heating in a gas forge or a high tem...

2 X 72 Grinder

http://picasaweb.google.com/114112791231015606856/BLACKSMITH#5496500844985078226 I finished, well finished for now, this grinder this past year. Re: How to prevent mill scale on ID of pickeld pipe

If you are purging the tig weld just continue the purge for the 7018 pass/passes. Once the pipe is completely purged and the root pass is in you can reduce the argon flow rate to almost nothing. Welding doesn't create oxygen inside the pipe and the 'mill scale' is iron oxide. No oxygen... no scale. ...

Re: What's wrong with this picture?

Those are probably the best reason in world to collect and rebuild old Airco 2 stage regulators and flow meters. Parts are easily available and the are rock solid. My 40 year old argon regulator leaked slowly. After a rebuild it would hold tank pressure with the screw backed out for 3 weeks... it dr...
