Re: Plasma performance on thin stock?

I have the 625 and I cut both thin and thick (within its capacity) all the time. There is no compromise on performance at the thin end as far as I can tell.

Re: N00B Alert

I have had one of these for a little while now and I love it. I've done a little stick welding with it just for kicks and it did fine with 7018 and was ok with 6010 but not great. It MIG welds like a dream on anything within its capacity. Nothing not to like imho.

Re: What would you call this machine?

sorry about the sideways pics. Now that I'm back at my 'puter I can do a better job. These are the best shots I have. It's a little tough getting good pics from my chair with the machine on the back of a truck lol. IMG_2281.JPG IMG_2277.JPG The Miller lettering is very faded, but it's there...trust ...

Re: What would you call this machine?

I'll try to get some better shots. If you look closely you can see the faded letters where it says miller and big 40 just above the Lincoln plate.

What would you call this machine?

Here are a couple shots of a machine my dad put together. The engine, frame, and most of the sheet metal are from a Miller. The generator and controls from a lincoln. It has very nice arc characteristics and welds beautifully :D

Re: Welding table redesign

Very nice! My welding table is a wood stove my dad started to build twenty years ago and never got finished. My chair fits neatly under the top and it works for me but yours is much nicer looking.

Welcome to the forum. I spent my career working for an excavating/paving contractor so that's primarily the same kind of welding I have experience with. I'm sure you'll find much to like here.

Re: gas mixtures

I've been using straight CO2 for years with no complaints. Perhaps I just don't know what I'm missing. I may try a 75/25 mix next time just to form my own opinion, but as far as I can tell CO2 works fine.

I find it hard to manipulate the rotary style with gloves on without introducing a lot of unwanted torch wobble. Hopefully the pistol style will be easier.
