Re: flex neck mig gun

I wonder if that gun would fit my old Hobart Handler 150. Against my better judgement, I loaned it to a friend a couple years ago and it came back with a busted trigger. I MacGuyvered a new one out of wood but it's a bit flaky. I now feel that if someone asks to borrow one of my machines, it's like ...

Re: Welding Lens

I was always told that due to the reflective nature of the gold lenses, they block the harmful portion of the arc rays better and can actually appear as a lighter shade than they are numbered as. Never used the blue. This is just what the old timers at my old job told me about the gold ones. Good lu...

new machine ordered. giddy!

I just ordered a Miller Dynasty 280DX package after a good bit of research. I'd like to hear some of y'all's thoughts. Have I made a mistake? thanks.

Re: Online metal suppliers

Thanks. I made contact with a guy at a machine shop in the area who gets metal delivered most weeks from a large supplier. He will let me buy through his company at his cost :-)
Problem seems to be solved.

Online metal suppliers

I live way out in the sticks and have to drive at least an hour each way to the nearest place to buy steel. I am curious about online suppliers. Any suggestions and/or opinions of some of the online sources? Thanks.

Re: Forklift fork repair

Never done forks, but had fairly good luck repairing ripper shanks using pre/post heat with no quenching and 8018 rod. I'm with the others here, though, in thinking it's a bad idea to repair old fatigued forks. With a ripper, if it breaks it's an inconvenience. Forks breaking seem very dangerous to ...

7018 vs 8018

Greetings all. Years ago I worked as a heavy equipment mechanic and welder working mostly on caterpillar equipment. Most of the repairs required gouging out the crack with an air arc and then using multiple passes to weld it in. The company I worked for insisted I use 8018 on the repairs. I also did...

Re: Is it enough juice?

In my experience a more powerful machine is always the better way to go if you can afford it. Be it MIG, TIG, or stick, you will have things come up that you want to weld and working at or beyond a machine's limit can result in cold welds or the dreaded lack of fusion. I am retired and just weld as ...

Re: Eastwood Versacut 60 or 40 plasma cutters ?

An update: I earlier stated I'd had no real problems with my Eastwood versacut 60. Well I went to use it yesterday and the power adjusting knob fell apart and disappeared into the case. It has hardly been used at all. I cannot recommend this product. :( Also my memory is faulty. I just noticed I hav...

Re: I love Jodie's latest welder cart...because..

Nice Job. I really like the gangboxes. Seems so obvious now that I've seen yours lol. Good tip about isolating grounds. I had an old drill motor with messed up wiring lying on my welding table and had a ground feed back thru it. Will definitely melt the windings.

image.jpg Braehill, I really like your suggestion; the creativity of many minds vs just one. As future challenges await, I'm sure it'll come in handy. I just recently converted an unfinished wood burning stove I'd started to build before my accident into a nice roll under welding table. My chair fi...

Re: Welding from a wheelchair

I'm not sure exactly what caused the burn. My pants weren't burned at all. I had spent most of the day in my shop tinkering and welding. I now wear a leather apron and leather ankle/boot covers. I've still picked up the odd burn here and there but they have been small ones. Can't be too careful. I l...

Welding from a wheelchair

Greetings all. I'm just wondering if there are any other members here who are in a wheelchair and if so, what problems have they run into when welding and what were their solutions? I have had to rebuild foot controls to be finger controlled and also learn the hard way about protective leathers, etc...
