Re: Best method to weld two 1/4" bolts together?

clean the bolts remove galvo and weld mig, tig. the strength will no longer be what the bolt was. I assume you want to weld head to head. I second the idea of using threaded rod and 2 jam nuts or 2 regular nuts or a coupling nut with a hole drilled in it where you can then weld that in place

Re: Spiral staircase help

I would roll the tube and then un coil it to your total rise . like wrapping a wire around a pipe then stretching it out, it may not be that easy though . check with local steel suppliers they may have power tube roller that can be used. Check you tube

Re: Granite 1324 opinions wanted

looking at thier website the machine seems ok in the lathe dept and weak in the mill dept not beefy enough. for the cost I think you can get good used iron provided you have the space. I have a sheldon lathe very worn ways and an index mill (vertical knee) ,I just picked up a very nice MSC 1325 lath...

Re: Speciality Shielding Gases - are they really worth it?

what I get from it is ,as with all things we have salesmen and buyers. when I don't research the technology or subject , I rely on salesmen and brand names . eg. a good blue-ray player? ,I just buy sony ,samsung , top name brand, based on that company's reputation without thinking. With welding ther...

Re: China Plasma cutters?

I Have a Hypertherm PM45, I purchased this because they have excellent cut quality and consumable life. Chinese plasma are inverter power source but may lack in the torch and consumable area. This is relative to what you need to cut. I own harbor freight band saw and die grinders - but I use lennox ...

Re: Lincoln power mig 210 MP

regarding an all in one machine , there are differences in the power sources that you need, resistance welding (arc, mig, tig) requires low voltage up to about 30V Plasma cutting uses voltage in the range of 100-120V so the power source for one will not work for the other. Inverter power sources are...

Re: I pull the trigger and my welder isn't welding.

Its a process of elimination , test the trigger in the gun with a meter , check the connection to the welder ,try shorting the pins associated with the trigger at the welder, open up the welder look for anything obvious- loose connections, this machine has a circuit board that controls everything.

Re: Hobart flux cor wire

what do you mean by burning thru tips? burnback? the tip bore has doubled? tips last a long time, when the wire welds to the end of the tip , the tip is not burnt or shot, just needs to to be fixed. Why that happened is what you want to Know. I dont think that you ran 25 lbs of wire thru that tip an...

Re: Add Spoolgun to older Hobart Beta Mig 170

I have put a spool gun on a Harbor freight italian made mig welder. It went like this, opened up the welder found the wires going to the mig wire feed motor, trigger and potentiometer used for wire speed. You need switch between these items. many wire feed motors are ~24v . you will need a switch wi...
