Re: Avoid Hand Stabbing.

This is the trailer. I tried to convince the owner his money was better spent replacing it. The difficulty was that the owner did not want to rebuild it or replace it. He wanted it reinforced. He wanted to use scrap materials wherever possible. And, it h...

Re: Avoid Hand Stabbing.

You made me think again, and double check the invoice for the trailer job. I used 6011, not 6013. I'm going to edit the previous to reflect that.

Well, WWW.... ("When Wives Weld") :)

Re: Avoid Hand Stabbing.

Agreed, fatigue is the biggest danger of all. I got a third degree burn from a hot tack falling on my leg. I have never heard of that from anyone else- obviously caused by my poor technique. I was using 6013 overhead to reinforce a 14-ft trailer with new cross members welded to the existing structur...

How about working right to the AWS or Petroleum Institute code, for process at least? This one is awesome- Pipe Welding Procedures (Hardcover) – January 1, 2003 by Hoobasarl Rampaul (Author) ISBN-13: 978-0831131418 ISBN-10: 0831131411 Edition: 2nd and not expensive. Also ESAB's TIG welding handbook.

Dry it in a wire oven or household oven before you use the 70XX electrodes.

Bathrooms aren't hard. I re-plumbed and re-fitted ours while my husband was away, so it would be all done when he got home. Kept the overall cost way down too. It came out very well.

No ignorance! :)
Those are just the military or industrial specs. No difference in the filler material.

Re: Hello from the Mid-West

Really, you remember the Sykes? THat was not a giant ship, forgive me. My last ship was one of the thousand footers. That was a tough job. All the deck gear was heavier than on the smaller boats, it was a very hard winter, and I was underfed and underweight. THe lakes froze over completely that wint...

Re: Aluminum tig problem with 4043

Tell me if this is correct- you are using ER-4043 filler metal? My shop has one qualified process using this filler. The parameters are as follows: Aluminum/aluminum based alloys, similar base metals (or base metal repair) Base material type Aluminum castings thickness range 0.060" - 0.500"...

Re: Hello from the Mid-West

You were probably working in the mills when my 600-ft steamer, the Wilfred Sykes, came in to unload iron ore at Inland Steel. Yes, it was really incredible. I don't know what happened to all the boats I worked on. It was so hard to see the collapse of a great industry, although domestic steel has re...

Re: What is your favorite Welding Hood?

This reply might be too simple, but the biggest obstacle I had to overcome was teaching my eyes to see detail beyond the light and dark contrast. It took some time to do this. In terms of equipment, the auto-darkening lenses seem to transfer less color variation than a traditional filter. That matte...

Re: Hello from the Mid-West

Good morning! I still remember the asphalt barges coming up from the South during the summer const...
