Re: Filler rod identification
Thank you guys for all of the responses! I'll look at the rod again for markings, maybe my old eyes missed them. Otherwise, I'm going to ASSUME it's 312 for now. Thanks again Bob Bob, if it is not a secret, can you tell us, where are you going to use that rod? Guys here can suggest you a proper stu...

Re: Holy $€#* my arc welding is rough
From my humble understanding, your thick plate is like a heat sink, it dissipates too much heat for that short period of time when you form a puddle, weld is "too cold". Preheat plate or add amps and try U motion(stretch puddle) or O, instead of Z This is the case where you can not use the...

Re: Filler rod identification
ER312 is used to weld cast alloys of similar composition and is used to weld dissimilar metals and weld overlays. This alloy has very high ferrite. When welding similar cast alloys, limit welding to two or three layers only.

Re: Fire safety violation on friday full moon at work, not m
So, what happened? All I see is smoke in the distance in a five-second video. Steve S Eh, tombstone fab shop, near to my work got blazing. According to rumors folks there over heated their stove or whatever they have there. It was dome shaped soviet era hangar. I suppose, cheap tombstones will be o...

Fire safety violation on friday full moon at work, not mine.
Look what a vista I saw today. Some lads got drunk at work, and overheated their heating system.

Re: Buying a longer/heaver mig gun
In the beginning...I had water cooled gun. After just a week of heavy welding and having little finger under constant weight of a hose and trying to hold a gun through thick welding gauntlet, a joint between finger and palm was in pain. I immediately switched gloves to thin ones and got uncooled gun...

Mag pulse under question
I use Aristo Mig 4000i with Aristo Feed 3004 and today I decided to try mag pulse(mild steel, CO2), only ~5m/min feed speed was able to make a weld, everything below and above was "weldless". Is it intended to use with another metals and shielding gases, for I did not find it usable with m...

Ok, it is triggerguard. I often keep a gun on thigh and it is set to 4t. 246394479_c2d57e910f80.jpg How its made. Take C shape metal piece(big enough for finger with gloves you use), bend it to fit around your press button. Make a hook part, then tack both parts so that it is little bit smaller(to c...

Re: Earth cable size length/thickness/amps?
I have melted earth cable port at welder once, it was not attached tightly or unscrewed itself. Welded at ~250 amps, I guess sparks there heated up connection quite quickly, as it happened early in the morning.
Make sure your connections are Tight!

Re: Liners
Getting back to liners. I have had an ugly xp with them. Once upon a time I switched to another Lincoln Powertec 360S, if I remember correctly machine and was annoyed to death -> start to weld, works well, after some short time wire melts to the tip, or melts with huge drops slowly. First idea was, ...

You might be able to buy leather from any place that makes leather products. Re: Aramid clothing
Maybe nomex then. I have a pair of coveralls that followed me home from the refinery and they are far from new and I have never burn them either. I wash my FR shirts and they work as good as they did new. Good FR is in the fabric, not just a coating. Nomex is just a DuPont trademark for aramid(the ...

Re: Aramid clothing
Save yourself some money and buy some FR pants or FR coveralls. They are still expensive but nothing like what you want to do. I wear an FR long sleeve shirt when I mig (especially overhead) and I have never burned a hole in it. Well, I had ones with leather cover on upper part of legs, but most of...

Hi, I have come to an idea of ordering myself some aramid fabric http://www.fibermaxcomposites.com/shop/kevlararamid-fabrics-c-22.html and giving it to some sewer in order to get some welding pants, that fit and prevents burning holes in my pants. (No apron) Any experience with this material is appr...
