Re: Electrode deposits and bronze
Thanks.. I'll try to get a photo. The structures are complete but I still have work to do on the faces. It's partly just curiosity, but also as I mentioned about half of one of the batches of rods we bought were almost impossible to weld with. They are very gassy as though there was no argon flow. I...

Re: Electrode deposits and bronze
I don't think it's zinc. Some always boils off but the yellow crystals seem to form most when the welding is clean. I don't always get them, usually it happens on longer runs when I'm welding after tacking up. In any case, wouldn't the electrode be too hot for zinc? It's a sculpture in two parts, ea...

Electrode deposits and bronze
I am fabricating quite a large sculpture out of 90/10 copper zinc sheet. The rods are SIF phosphor/bronze which I think are 7% tin and 3% phosphor. Gas is Pure-shield Argon. I am getting a hard yellow crystal deposit on the electrode, typically on the tip of the point and also just inside the cup. A...

Re: Tig welder for a newbie
Have you considered Parweld machines? Thats what I have for TIG since a year back. They sell for a lot less in the UK compared to here. Maybe good price levrl in Ireland too? I have a 160 amp Parweld stick inverter from WWS in Dublin which was very reasonably priced. It is a few years old now and h...

Re: Tig welder for a newbie
I bought a Stahlwerk in October last year (200 ac/plasma). Iv'e been using it daily to weld up a large sculpture in bronze sheet. Baring some small niggles I'm very happy with it and with the Stahlwerk service. I don't have much TIG experience apart from sculpture work so I can't comment on how it c...

Re: Stahlwerk?
The new welder arrived last night. Very quick dispatch from Stahlwerk, they sent it on the day I ordered it. UPS tracking let me follow the delivery progress. Everything correct as per the order and no damages. A couple of notes for anyone else thinking of ordering one.. I would have preferred the f...

Re: Stahlwerk?
Enough thinking about it! Today I bought the Stahlwerk 200 tig with plasma S. I also bought the water cooler which looks the same as sold by many other brands but at €300 looks very reasonably priced. Delivery in a few days. I have a few weeks work coming up to help create a large sculpture in 'bron...

Re: Stahlwerk?
I saw some amazon reviews, but those that I saw were quite old, one related to a foot pedal issue but I didn't see any other that related to problems with the equipment. Considering the value that this gear seems to represent and their (conditional) five year guarantee, I think it is really surprisi...

Re: Stahlwerk?
Thanks for the reply Nordlicht What mostly do you weld? I'm still undecided about what I'm going to buy, I have to admit that the plasma was one of the features that was was persuading me to go for the Stahlwerk over say an AC RTech. I know the RTech units can be had for much less with other labels ...

Re: Stahlwerk?
Thanks for the reply Anders I know some of the older Stahlwerk stuff looks identical to many other Chinese machines but the newer ones are styled differently. Are the innards Jassic or some other common make? This makes a difference to me to know for sure because then I know I have some option or re...

Stahlwerk?
Hello I'm looking at buying the Stahlwerk 200 ac/dc tig welder with plasma. Has anyone got one of these machines? Any issues, what is the service like from Stahlwerk? Can anyone tell me if it has similar internals to any of the other Chinese machines? For repair under guarantee I will have to send i...

Re: Tig inverter
Hello Trebor
Sorry for butting in here..
I'm thinking of buying the same welder from Stahlwerk. You have had it a few months now judging by the post dates. Are you happy with it? Everything working?
Would appreciate your feedback
Thanks
Nick
