Re: 6063-T7 aluminum
I think your going to make things worse by cutting and welding on it. Obviously your not going heat treat it again when your done. You said it's in alignment, so why does it need to be fixed? ....ummm...the OP hasn't replied to my query of alignment--wheel alignment is one thing, frame alignment of...

Re: PITA Cast Iron Repair
Consider trying 312 SS on CI of crappy, dubious condition, next time. It wets out nicely, adheres better than 99 Ni, etc. Fire off on filler rod (lay rod as you mentioned) Additional prep that works for any CI--fire off TIG torch on bare min amps, play the arc around the beveled break. This vaporize...

is this the 'kink' area you're describing? crushed%20frame circle .jpg If the control arm was ripped off, just what is that area of the frame, etc.-like? In any case repair setup really should include good dimensional checks on all frame measurements on a decent frame machine. You state " The c...

Re: Tungsten prep for aluminum
I oppose the use of Thoriated Tungsten in any HFAC Aluminum application. I've seen it succeed brilliantly, and don't discount those who do it. I find it very unpredictable in it's behavior, and I've cleaned dozens of welds where Thoriated was used by people who didn't know what they were doing. As ...

Red (thoriated) or Light Blue (lanthanated) tungstens seem to be the preferred for inverter-based machines. Either will ball up on its own while welding after a short time in most cases. .................. "Either will ball up on its own while welding after a short time in most cases." Be...

Re: Tig machine settings matrix?
The milller, lincoln, etc. setup guidelines get one in the ball park,
then, more often than not, one adjusts machine parameters, torch distance/attitude, etc.
to get dialed in on a particular job......then one records this for then next time.

Re: Tig machine settings matrix?
Has anyone ever seen a settings matrix for Tig welding that I can print and put on the side of my machine? On my Diversion its easy; one button, one dial, two modes. Not so clear on my old 330 A/B/P. I can probably do it myself but just wondering if anyone has ever seen one. I think the following w...

So, can you order just the torch and handle for the flex lock and put on the hoses and cables you already own? I have been wanting to get either one of these torches but I can not figure out how to order without it coming with hoses that I already have that came on the Dynasty. CK hoses use threade...

Re: Weldtec i head ball joint VS CK Flex loc (water cooled)
inserted comments Hi I am wondering what the consensus is between the Weldtec iHead Ball Joint torch and the CK Flex Loc. I am getting a water cooler to cut the heat and am probably going to get a 20 style torch. My main concern is that the shape of the flex loc seems like it may be a bit awkward i...

From the 3rd pic posted--porosity all around outside, porosity on the inside. Appears the outside flange plate and it's ID saw little to no clean/sand/prep--oil residue. Rough plasma cut flange hole can hold all kinds of stuff in the cut edge. A spec of oil, just a pencil dot size, can expand when v...

I've seen all of those but none of them define what they mean by corrosion stress cracking. What stress? Suspension component or a fluid container? I really doubt that boiling any joint of 5356 in water and holding it there a while, then gently pushing on it will make it crack - that's corrosion an...

kiwi2wheels, I will hopefully remove the shock tomorrow evening and post some photos. I had already realised I needed to get a slightly oversized bush in place to keep everything good. Re: Filling voids in SS weld - micro welding?
Thanks for info. V-groove would be perfect if one would want to do this part justice, but filling this groove would bend the part for sure. I think I will go with "quick zap". High current, preheat to 200*C, a lot of argon, maybe etching with acid those pits before the job. If I could giv...
