LOVE my e684, except for the controls OUTSIDE the helmet. I might try to relocate mine inside.

Re: Stainless Filler 308L - Used on DOM Tubing

Great reply copy/paste Oscar. The abridged version, it ikey has/will crack even if you can't see it by naked eye. As always use GOOD STANDARD PRACTICES. The post went into really good exploration of WHY not. As already been said, please NEVER weld cromoly tube with 308, you are using that tube for a...

Re: Need tips on pipe on a handrail!

During your PRACTICE I'd suggest welding pipe as I would most likely do for handrails (NOT PIPE CARRYING ANY GAS OR LIQUID) GMAW, 100% CO2, NO WIND or a windbrake in place as simple as a piece of cardboard clamped upwind from the joint, E70 wire, .030 or 035 whichever was probably already in my suit...

Re: Need tips on pipe on a handrail!

Not trying to sound rude or sarcastic: however, my recommendation is that you learn how to weld and PRACTICE before you are welding hand railings or any other thing which done poorly can lead to more than hurt feelings. As Vincenzio said, that's some serious worrying and over thinking how to butt we...

I just keep a separate bottle full of 88/12 for spray pulse. No need to screw with 2 regulators.

Re: Tired of getting zapped!

Regardless of how, where, when you are adding filler you should not get bit by the HF ever, with or without gloves, AS LONG AS YOU HAVE GOOD GROUND. I'd bet you still have poor grounding issues. As far as the zip ties, I can't remember how to explain it but it works to help HF leakage from your torc...

Re: why shop at welding supply vs bunnings?

Sorry, guess you missed my sarcasm. Your buying rod in sillymeters (metric) as I call it. Anyway, I buy all my rod and wire at less than half the price per pound from any of the big box or hardware stores, and yes in small quantities, 5 lb of rod, 4", 8", 12" spools and cut tig wire b...

Re: why shop at welding supply vs bunnings?

Your first problem is your buying rod in kg... and at a bunny store? Here in NY I buy rod and wire at LWS for half the price of Tractor Supply, Home Depot, Lowes or hardware stores if you can even find a real hardware store. Although my LWS is an independent outfit and super customer service. Other ...

Re: Tired of getting zapped!

HF can go a LONG way to finding an easier path to ground. I've more than once had the HF arc but no welding power when the ground has been knocked off laying on the dirt, gravel, ashpalt, concrete, etc. #1 check ALL the ground connections. Bare metal for the clamp to grip on, clean clamp, tight conn...

If your LWS can't mix a bottle of gas for you then you need to find a real LWS.

I'd love to try one but it seems to be about 1000% overpriced compared to "normal" shaped tooling for CNC equipment.

Worst shock ever I was zapped doing one of those, sure hold on, put it on the bench. Cascade of stupid small errors. 1. In a rush. 2. Hungry, minutes till lunch. 3. No gloves, already took them and coat off for lunch. 4. Ground on table frame (left side, torch in right hand) 5. Stainless door for so...

Re: MIG Nozzle Touching the Steel

I've burned a trailer load of hard wire. But like Otto said, bad idea. Yes the nozzle is "SUPPOSED" to be insulated. I can show you lots of my nozzles that shorted to the tip from spatter. They have a chunk that blew off when trying to "weld upside down backwards in a mirror." Sp...

Re: AL TIG woes

I think your a bit rough on yourself. For years we've been able to cover 90%? of aluminum TIG work with 4043 or 5356 with a giant transformer machine on AC with continuous high frequency some birthday balloon gas and some good ole radioactive tungsten. Personally I doubt the fancy pulse, wave shapes...

Personally I never have and never will buy a grinder WITHOUT a thumb lock switch. Oh well. Tools are dangerous, they always will be, learn to use them saf...
