Welding may not make the World go around, but it sure does hold a lot of it together. I like that...that is siggy material 8-) here's another: "Steel, keeping concrete in it's place"...quote from an AISC auditor friend of mine comes from the notion that some engineers like to use mud and ...

Re: Stainless Steel Plasma Cutting

The big concern with cutting/welding Stainless Steel is the "Hexavalent Chromium", have a look at this link on the OSHA site:

https://www.osha.gov/SLTC/hexavalentchromium/

edit* I should read better, Otto has already mentioned the hex-chrome issue

Re: Welding heavy structural steel

If you have several full penetration welds on a project that has 1" - 3" thick materials...I would suggest using 3/32" E70T-1, keep in mind that you would need a machine capable of running 420-450a/29-30v (at approx. 150-160ipm). I worked for a structural steel fabricator and this was...

Re: Calling Jody! wide spaced ripples

John, I would guess it would be to prevent cracking often associated with forming thicker members. Or is can be a stress relief but I would go with the crack prevention. -Jonathan Ah, OK...I thought maybe there was something more going on that I was aware of....trying to advance my small knowledge ...

If the machine settings are all the same, maybe the air pressure has dropped for some reason.

Re: Spot Weld Troubles

Keep an eye on your cables/leads....particularly the connections. Make sure nothing is loose, as this causes resistance to the current flowing, resistance causes additional heat.

I always had trouble keeping SS sitting still, it wanted to move no matter how I restrained it. This looks like a job, nicely done.

Re: FCAW settings

Chris, Any time you walk in to a weld test, assume the machine is set wrong. Your ability to set the machine is part of your test. Have a look at the WPS, and ask for one if it's not offered. Look for stupid shit, like someone messing with the polarity of the machine. Treat your test like the last ...

I wondered how that gas hose carried 200 amps of current...apparently it doesn't always...I will have to be careful wrapping all of that up when putting the welder away after I use it.

I'm down with the process, we use it. The magnetic medium comes in cans, the techies spray in on whilst powering on the magnet. Its got a fluid that dries leaving the black particles on a spray painted white background. I have never seen or used that...sounds neat. Is it permanent? Like maybe it dr...

Yup, the painting/shipping/loading department is setup the same way on the opposite end of the plant. The main fabrication plant has solid floors with steel saw horses for work tables.

I have one of those...I was disappointed that I couldn't stick weld with it...well, it didn't have a connection on the front of the machine for a stick electrode holder/lead to hook up. The electrical connections are a bit cheap too, the plastic is fragile and needs lots of care when setting up and ...
