Re: Buying 1st welding need advice!

Thanks Len! I really don't think I'm going with one welder for all processes. I should have been more clear on the setup. I ether wanted a tig/stick and a mig welder or visa versa. Just looking for brands and setup advice. Thanks!

Buying 1st welding need advice!

Hey guys I am looking at buying my first welder and would like some advice/recommendations. I would like an HF tig welder/stick but love to mig as well. I really don't want to lift arc tig everything. I love doing all the processes so would like to have the flexibility to all of them. Price isn't a ...

Miller Syncrowave 210

Guys any thoughts or experience with this? Is it worth getting if I do a little mig welding too? I don't have any experience with a spool gun.

Its a Tee joint with one side Horizontal in the 2F position and the other side in the 3F position. The bottom side of the joint is my Horizontal 2F and the top side is the 3F Vertical up. We did 60...

Practice stand for all positions?

Hey guys I have seen a lot of Jody's videos from the dvd's that I bought and on YouTube. He uses some sort of stand to weld in positions such as overhead and vertical up and also when when he filmed the 6G pipe test. I would like to get or build something like this to practice with. I am a newer wel...

Re: First ARC project!

Wow Thanks Mike! Yes, other than running some practice stringer beads, this is the firsts welding I've ever done. I also managed to keep the plate pretty straight from distorting. Some of the other students in my term ended up with potato chips from distortion. I also got to see what the effects of ...

Re: Struck my first arc! Puddle control?

Wow John thanks for the informative reply! I will definitely take your advice and start working on each small problem at a time and not everything at once. I did notice today that waiting for the puddle to form and making smaller circles or whips made my passes tighter and more consistent as far as ...

Struck my first arc! Puddle control?

Today I struck my first arc in my welding program at school today. We used a 6010 rod set at 80 amps on 3/8 inch plate. Not as hard as I though t it would be but controlling the puddle and keeping it consistent I see will be a challenge and is going to take some practice. Any tips on puddle control ...
