Re: Help a dumb Noob! Did I burn my eyes?
What do you do for a living? I swear it sounds like something out of a F'ing movie. Helium vacuum's and all that fancy stuff, what's it all about? Sounds like a boatload of fun. I have to admit, most days I enjoy my job immensely. Over eight years, I've steered it into the job I've always wanted. I...

Re: Best way to weld SS to prevent crevice corrosion??
I would use 316 throughout, and an over-alloyed (fully austinitic) filler. Eliminating ferrite in the weld will go a long way to stopping crevice corrosion. Here's a quote from a discussion I had recently with a welding engineer, "Examples of filler metals which solidify austenitically are AXT...

It wouldn't be that expensive to do it in Ti but whose gonna weld it? You're not that far from the OPLtBadd wrote:Making it from Titanium? That would last awhileexnailpounder wrote:Any ideas about what others are doing about this problem?

Re: Best way to weld SS to prevent crevice corrosion??
Match your materials and your filler rod. I.E. all 316 ss if that's what you've got. Dissimilar metals in a salt brine solution is a prime recipe for galvanic corrosion. Then you should be fine. Notice how the ss tube on your old part is only corroded near the areas where the two different metals w...

Re: 7018 on AC
Well as of 5:30 I have officially passed my first weld test. Only one little bit of undercut that opened that was still passable. And then he put me on some vertical t-joints to get that down after we bent her. He also sent me some new 3/32" rods to try since the others were older so we'll see...

I finally scored some 4943 AL filler. Been dying to see the differences. Re: 4043 vs. 4943
FINALLY! I've done quite a bit of work with both, I don't really notice a difference in welding them but supposedly, 4943 is stronger in fillet type welds so I feel better about myself when I weld with 4943. I'm glad that 4943 helps you with your welding anxiety. I was expecting an omnipotent...
