Re: Hard Facing Wire To Join Mild and High Carbon
Gdarc21 The reason for wanting to try this is due to the high price of steels I use and the (Insane) high shipping costs. I can get 1018, A36 and even 1045 locally but 4340 and tool steels in thicker bars are not so easy, but I can buy different tool steels in 1/4" x whatever very easily. It's ...

Hard Facing Wire To Join Mild and High Carbon
Would using hard facing mig wire for joining mild steel to 5160 or a high carbon steel work well?
Thank You

Welding 5160 To Mild Steel
What would be the best mig wire or tig filler rod for welding 5160, 1070 or 1080 to A36 or 1018 steel?
I have been finding a lot about preheat and post heat but not finding any specifics on filler material.
I have a Hobart Ironman 230 with Lincoln Super Arc L-56 in it right now.
Thank You

Tig Welding Tool Steel 01 To 01 & A2 To A2
Does anyone have tool steel tig welding experience? 01 to 01 or A2 to A2, unhardened? I would like to make some specialized socket handle style woodworking chisels and would like to weld the socket handle portion to the 1/4" thick flat stock rather than machining the whole tool from a large pie...

Re: Pyrex Mig Nozzle
They hold up fine. The spatter wire brushes off with more effort than a standard nozzle but comes completely off.
Since it' sees limited use and is not for general work spatter is not an issue.

Pyrex Mig Nozzle
I needed a better view for some out of the way mig welding on a trailer and thought "we have Pyrex tig cups, why not a Pyrex mig nozzle?"
So I made one. Works great. Not for everyday use for obvious breakage reasons but works great for every once and a while when a better view is needed.
