I spoke to the concreter and he says he can give it a burnished finish and a clear seal, or just smooth it all perfectly and then paint it.
Not sure if I want the burn/polish and then seal or just paint. oh boy! The choice is keeping me awake

Re: concrete floor
I have read and re-read the replies on here :D It seems I will be going for the 32mpa (I think that's right and it's probably overkill) slab as it isn't that much different in cost apparently. It will be 150mm thick and it will be poured in 1 go with no expansion joints and laser leveled. The engine...

concrete floor
Hi guys, so I have an odd question. I am building my new man cave/shed/garage/workshop what ever you call it and I will be pouring a new concrete slab. I am just wondering what surface will stand up to welding. Concrete polishing, sealed concrete? I am over thinking this probably so I thought I woul...

Re: What I welded today....
Cosi, I don't see anything to be embarrased about there. Looks great to me! It is nice to see the alum welding carts as opposed to all the steel ones. What welding machine do you have there? That's not one sold in the States that I am aware of anyway. -Jonathan Thanks Jonathan! The machine is a Uni...

Here is my first attempt at aluminium and my first actual welding project from scratch. I wasn't going to post it because I was embarrassed lol but it does the job and I can only get better I guess

Re: Which Helmet do i buy?
Sorry to dig up an old thread but I have been trolling through olds posts about helmets and noticed Mike said he loved the speedglass helmet from 3M. Link to their brochure Are there any other suggestions for MIG welding only. I will be welding in my garage or in the driveway, so ventilation should ...

Re: What I welded today....
As a crazy note on having a spare mounted on a trailer, your spare will dry rot and even blow out sitting in the hot sun. We have a emergency response trailer at work that has had 2 spares blow out sitting in the yard since 1996, so park it in the shade and cover the spare. Or you can do like we do...

That's very logical
I never really understood what I heard about it being angled for better wire feed. Anyway, that was an easy one.

Re: What I welded today....
yep great idea. I never use that spare wheel anyway. I did however make 1 huge mistake that I now realise haha quite funny and stupid. My bike won't fit with all the sides up. Not that I need it but I made the sides shorter as it was less work to just weld on to the cross members there and not have ...

angle of welding machine on trolley
I have been looking at pictures of other peoples welding carts and I was told ages ago that its best if the welding machine faces down to allow the feed of the wire to come out easier. I have seen other trolleys face the feed upwards. I am now thinking that depending on how high your machine ir in r...

Re: What I welded today....
Here is my trailer. I have owned it for near on 15 years now. I left it to rot at my folks place for about 7 years and the front of the draw bars was sitting in the grass. But now that I have space I decided it would be my first project as I am brand new to welding. I just bought my T&R 250K and...

Re: gas mixtures
So I have been practising with my new welder, I love it by the way, and I'm saw this pin hole and it happened twice in my practice beads. What does it mean?
Also the burning or black soot is that because there is too much or too little gas?

Re: gas mixtures
I don't have a lot of welding to do now because I need to build my garage, plans went in to council the other day for approval. At the moment I am just modifying my trailer, to add sides, to help with the demo works of the existing garage and get that rubbish to the tip. I am just welding 2mm box tu...

Everlast make good plasma machines for affordable prices just check all the details out before you buy. I have the plasma and an old black and decker chop saw and that is all I use. Use a straight edge and plasma will do fine. BTW before I got the saw I used plasma for cutting box tube and everythi...

Re: newbie asking newbie questions
here is the hypertherm range with pricing. I am liking the Makita LC1230 more now after watching this video on YouTube about it compared to the abrasive wheel machine. The LC1230 is $600 here which I think is reasonable. I just have to find a non-ferrous blade and then I am set. The Makita 4131 is t...

Re: newbie asking newbie questions
What's the benefit of having this Makita cut-off drop saw versus the Makita LC1230 Taz, when you said band saw, did you mean the vertical or the horizontal band saw? The Hypertherm 45 is a lot more than what I wanted to spend on a plasma cutter, but I guess you get what you pay for. I was thinking n...

Re: gas mixtures
Hey cob. We use Argoshield 51 for solid steel wire and Argoshield 52 for flux core. The boc website will have the make ups for those trade names and you can buy that mixture from any gas company. It doesn't list Argoshield 51 but I am sure if I call them they will supply it. Great thanks for the ad...

MIG wire selection
I am trying to find out what size wire to buy for my first project, box section mild steel no more than 2mm thick. To be honest any project I have in mind probably won't exceed 3-4mm. I think that any wire form say 0.8mm to 1.2mm will work but is there an optimal choice, or perhaps a calculation or ...

Re: newbie asking newbie questions
Cosi, That question could lead to as many answers as there are people responding to it. I think that every type of cutting tool has a place that it's best suited. Horizontal bandsaws are nice for accurate cuts, but slow. Plasma cutters are fast but dirty. As you stated nibblers and shears are limit...

Re: gas mixtures
THE BOTTOM LINE IS THERE IS NO NEED FOR ANY WELD SHOP TO USE THE 75 ARGON - 25% CO2 GAS MIX, AS THIS POPULAR GAS MIX HAS ALWAYS PROVIDED LESS THAN OPTIMUM WELD RESULTS FOR MOST OF THE COMMON MIG WELD APPLICATIONS. That is a direct quote from the weldreality web site. It seems that the 75/25 mis is a...
