Re: nasty weld. whats the deal

I'll try to get some pics.. It doesn't make any sense to me that I can make a good weld on almost anything then the next weld I lay down looks like a gray ball of snot. I'm starting to think it might be a gas leak in the torch if I hold it at a certain angle? I don't know I'll try to get you guys so...

nasty weld. whats the deal

I have this problem on certain things and I can't figure out what it is. Most of the time everything's good but on things like filling a hole or welding pipe to a flat surface I get a gray ball of weld when I add filler it's like putting a fork in a bowl of melted cheese and trying to pull it out it...

Re: tig root pass sch. 80 four inch pipe. 1/8 land

I agree with 5g being the hardest. Generally I run the root at 115 amps just because of the thick land. 4 inch is a little smaller than what I'm used too. That's the thing about welding almost everyday is something different.

Also I like a slight weave on the root pass. Forward...

This is what I was welding when it happened. It's a belt box on a mud motor. I didn't want to drill a hole because otherwise I would just have to fill it when I finished welding the crack and be in the same position with that grey snot haha.

Re: kinda new to aluminum need critique please.

Okay will do. Thanks. I also have another question about filling a crack or a hole. I know your suppose to drill some kind of ventilation. But for what I was doing there was no way to drill. When I was just about to seal the crack my bead started to look like grey snot I couldn't add filler without ...
