Re: Old Cylinder… dont know the contents please help

I'm not an expert, but what does the outlet coupling look like?
Since the fitting threads are fairly application-specific, I'd think that would tell you more than the neck markings unless it was a low-pressure cylinder for CO2.

I don't have that helmet, but could it work to slip the lens on top of the wire, only under the circled corners, and lock it down by the wire catching the lens sides with the bends in the wire?

Re: Tig torch QQ 150

I had a cheaper import welder that had M16 threads instead of a Dinse connector from the torch to the machine, so I suspect that is what they are marketing there.
I didn't find anything other than that welder when I searched for QQ150, so I don't have anything else to contribute.

Re: Do I really need a water cooled torch?

I am not a master of the welding arts, but I will suggest that if you don't need one now, but see the possible or likely need in the future, you might consider building a cooler. With time to scrounge around, you can usually pull the parts together for a fraction of the retail prices for a cooler, s...

Would Denatured Alcohol work as well? I don't know what is used as the "denaturing" additive to make the alcohol non-potable, but would think that any 90%+ alcohol should work as a passable cleaner. Around my area, getting any high proof alcohol has become difficult with the virus going ar...

Re: Torch consumables inconsistencies

I'm still a hobbyist welder, but after the torch that came with my cheap welder started giving me fits, I replaced it with a CK handle, and have generally stuck to CK consumables as well. As long as I'm careful to not go dropping the torch or tripping over the cables (and then dropping the torch on ...

I can attest to cyclone separators of various styles being helpful in shop cleanup as well. I bought an eight gallon dust right separator which is effectively a bucket with a pair of elbows in the lid, one input and one output. Even this gives enough spin to the incoming debris that most separate ou...

I had one order from Welding City for some 9/20 and 26 gas lens cups, and while not great, the packaging was adequate for the task and they all arrived intact. If you have a Harbor Freight in your area, you can get passable filler rod for practice reasonably cheaply. 1lb of ER5356 ran $10, but no ha...

Re: Wrangling RED magnets

Have you possibly been welding with the magnet still holding the parts, beyond tacking them in place? Most magnets really don't do well if they are heated above the curie point of the metal they're made of. Here's an article about this effect: https://www.apexmagnets.com/news-how-tos/magnet-experime...

Possibly a YT hiccup, or a local machine glitch if they're still not showing for you.

Around my area, the local Airgas store will happily slap a HazMat charge on everything as well. 1lb of ER70-S2? HazMat. Leather TIG gloves? HazMat there as well... I get it on a pressure cylinder, though CO2 being called "hazardous" offends me a little. On dry goods that can't hurt you unl...

Thanks for the warning on the 1" tubular webbing being a bit snug. I need to sleeve a new 25' air cooled torch that I just picked up from IOC and hadn't thought about it before this thread reminded me. I just ordered 30' of 1-1/4" hose from an eBay vendor, should see it in a couple of days.

I had similar issues when a torch body had the rubber on the back cap area start hardening and allowed air to be sucked into the shield gas flow.
I replaced it with a new CK handle and the problem went away.

I've had similar when I ended up with a leak at the torch head, and pulled air into the shield gas flow.
If bumping post-flow up a little doesn't fix it, you might start checking for leaks around the cup and back cap.

Looking at the troubleshooting section of the Vista 3000 manual, it looks like they know it's affected by cold weather, as there is a warning that it may be slow to darken while it's cold. That said, the information about flickering back to a lighter state doesn't mention cold, but instead just the ...
