Re: Cutting Stainles sheet

WELL YAHOO!! After a long awaited step, I finally got my stainless cut on a CNC Plasma today! Next will be to machine cut the SB to match the CNC'ed stainless. I've been fooling with some templates and holding fixtures to use as a component setup. I'm still working on ideas for that. I do have quite...

Re: Cutting Stainles sheet

Boy I'd sure like to give a positive and detailed update on my little project but there isn't one. I'm still trying to get the stainless hex pieces cut Identically. I can cut them close but close ain't good enough when doing a project with this many common edges. Needing 20 dead nuts identical piece...

Re: Cutting Stainles sheet

I've been doing a few test pieces of SB to Stainless. I AM going to make a truncated icosahedron. My goal is to do the Hexagons in either SB or stainless and flip for the Pentagons. I have some 1/8 SB coming next week. I cut some 3/16 SB with a wood miter saw and carbide blade. It worked fairly well...

Re: Cutting Stainles sheet

I'm welding up different shapes with some of the stainless scrap pieces I have around. It gives practice and it's fun. I want to do a truncated triacontadigon at 6" in diameter. That makes for 180 exact 1" sides. In English it's a 32 sided soccer ball with pentagons and hexagons. The dodec...

Cutting Stainles sheet

I'm doing a few little projects where I need to cut some stainless. Most is 10 ga. and the pieces are in the 1-2" range. Does anybody have any good advice for cutting repetitive pieces? I have a plasma but not a CNC. I built this cutting the pieces with a plasma using a template as a guide but ...

Re: Fun Project

You're going to have one heck of a time jigging and clamping that to get tacked. Tape. Tape it all together and tack it where able and cut tape for access until it's good enough to remove all the tape. Knowing what the outside finished diameter is supposed to be, the equator should be able to be fo...

Re: Fun Project

This is what I'm wanting to build. My problem is finding the correct dimensions to get the overall size I want. Unless I can come up with the formula to figure it out I will pull a number out of my ear and start with cardboard models.

Re: Fun Project

John, you mean like an orange peel template? I don't know what an orange peel template is? I'm finding from an Instructsables project that I'll need 20 Hexagons and 10 pentagons. I also found a website for dimensions of hex and pentagrams. Next I need to find some scale-able diagrams, print them ou...

Fun Project

I want to do a little fun project for "desk art". I want to make a geodesic type ball about the size of a softball. Much like a soccer ball looks but much smaller. I'm having trouble finding any calculations or design information. I'm thinking something along the lines of 5-6 sided pieces....

Re: Nexgen VS. Truesight II

How do you find the helmet and headgear? Sent from my electronic thingy using Tapatalk I have no trouble finding it. I go out and get it from my welding table. Seriously,,, the helmet is the same lightweight hood and headband as the Nexgen. The hood is light bordering on flimsy. I love it! I wouldn...

Re: What hood offers the best optics?

This is my post from the products forum. I just ran a couple stainless beads with my new True Sight II and with the Nexgen. The True Sight is hands down better than the Nexgen. I keep new lenses in the Nexgen and the shade at 9 and wish I could go lower. I fired up on the TS and had to darken to a 1...

Re: Cutting and notching, angles and all that. Need some hel

Hey Guys, I am working on a site right now with the job of building a tire rack. I have built a lot of things but normally, I build out of square tubing and not pipe. In this case, its pipe (woo) which I am not very good at figuring out angles and notching and all that fine stuff. If you look at th...

Triple 1 is common. 1/1/1/1 ain't Sent from my electronic thingy using Tapatalk Doing my research brought me to the True Sight II. It has the 1/1/1/1 rating and a blue arc instead of the green or amber. It should get here tomorrow and can't wait to compare the Nexgen to it. My buddy has the Optrel ...

Re: What hood offers the best optics?

I just bit the bullet and bought a new Jackson True Sight II wh70. I should get it next week! Look forward to a review. Esp if you have normal color vision. I swear by this hood if the welder is red/green colorblind. You will probably run 1 or 2 shades darker than thou normally do. Composed with Sw...

Re: Need a Welding Table

My small "everyday" table is a piece of surplus AR plate. 1/2" thick and about 30x48 inches. I used some 3x4 inch box iron for legs and some steel casters I scrounged from somewhere. I also weld a piece of angle on all my tables so that the legs are dead flush with the top surface. Th...

Re: What hood offers the best optics?

I bought a Jackson Nexgen awhile back and it has worked flawless.. My eyes are not what they used to be and optic wise the Nexgen at least to me is crystal clear. I also have a Nexgen and I love it. I'm always in search of the better mouse trap and have considered the Lincoln. Now I'm thinking abou...

I have seen them from $300 to $1500 depending on condition. I have one that appears to be in better shape than the one in the picture and mine has the stitch and spot features also. I wouldn't sell it for 2k.

Re: Lincoln SW 200 Purchase Questions

So I guess this sort of leads to the question of what actually IS a reasonable post flow time? I'm not a pro at this stuff by any stretch. Any thoughts? This seems to be cited as a major drawback for this machine in many people's eyes. Is this actually that big a deal? Sent from my iPhone using Tap...

Re: Lincoln SW 200 Purchase Questions

I've had mine for 6-8 months. No complaints and no issues. A couple other welder friends have also bought them and all come back with the same favorable results. The post flow gas issue , at least for me is outweighed heavily by the great performance of the machine.

Re: Tig welding Brass.

I have been TIG welding brass as an experiment process for about a week. So far all good results , if not messy as hell. I've used Romex bare copper 12ga. wire and low sulphur brass rod with pretty much the same results. It's messy , dirty, stinky and smoky but easy. I did a simple 90* fillet weld y...
