Re: First Beads

Thanks, I'll look into the miller welding app. Since originally starting this thread I have purchased a cart. One of the beads pictured, at least most of it, was done without any type of motion. I'm wondering why the welds cut into the top of the thicker material so much but dont look to be tied in ...

Re: First Beads

I guess I should add that this is done with the 211, 230v, .030 and 75/25 gas. The material thickness is the same that I'll be working with on my project, 3/16 flat onto 10g or so.

Hoping to get some advice so that the actual project turns out better than this.

Re: First Beads

I haven't been practicing like I should or would like to but I had a couple drops sitting in the garage and decided to run a couple beads. Hopefully the pictures show enough to get some advice from you guys. I didn't clean the scale off of any of it and set the machine by the chart for 3/16. Doing t...

Re: Tack weld

Ha ha, you had me worried I was posting in the wrong section. So here's what I'm working on, 3/8 plate used as a spacer on top of a leaf spring pad, 3/16 I think. A couple things, the spring pad is not flat anymore, it has a slight crown and also the ends are rounded over, both create a wierd fit up...

It's a miller 211, im not sure if it has the feature your talking about. I could also use some advice on doing the actual weld but maybe I need to start a new thread?

Thanks. So, 3 out of the 4 tacks I did the wire stuck to. I'm sure there's a trick to avoid that.

Tack weld

When you are tacking pieces together to hold them prior to running a bead do you move the tip of the gun or just hold it for a certain count?

Re: Wire Speed Question

I then set the machine in manual mode to play with the wire speeds... the recommended setting for what I was doing was to set the wire speed at '60' (if I remember correctly)... I had to turn it down to '30' to keep up with it. Ok, I know I need some practice.... but what effect does running the wi...

Re: Tube Frame Question

I would say 1 3/4 tube is just as common if not more commonly used for exo cages, at least on rock crawler type rigs. Alot of exo's tie into front and rear tube or plate bumpers that are welded or bolted to the frame, also onto rock sliders that are more commonly welded to the frame. There are some ...

Re: First Beads

I was surprised that it burned through, that flux core didn't and I went slower and ran longer beads. Overall this seemed hot or that I needed to move faster than expected. Is it normal for a good portion of the weld to stay glowing red after stopping? When making changes to minimize spatter where ...

I was watching some of his mig welding videos the other night, good stuff. I don't know why it is but it looks like his travel speed is slower than I feel is possible in my case.

First Beads

I've said this in my other threads but I'm brand new to welding, this is my first try at mig. I bought a millermatic 211 maybe a month ago and finally got a tank and gas for it a couple days ago. I still need a cart, gloves and some other misc items but I couldn't wait. I hooked up the gas grabbed a...

Re: Gas suppliers

All of places around here, as far as I can tell, do an exchange, take my empty and give a full for the price of the contents (roughly $40) plus a couple bucks. Im sure if I wanted I could request the same tank back, maybe not though. The one I purchased is not new so I guess it doesn't matter if I ju...

Re: Gas suppliers

This should be a good size for my intended use, sticker on the tank says 95cf. Is10cf/hr what I should set the output to? I thaught 20cf/hr was the norm. I'm wondering if the airgas store was trying to rip me off, they quoted me $210 for just the 80 cyl., no gas (+extra $82.20 for gas) I go to their...

If anybody is looking for a Millermatic 211, you can combine this 30% off and Miller's rebates to get an insane deal. The rebates right now will give you $400 back on Mill...

Re: Gas suppliers

I went and shopped around for a cylinder and gas, ended up purchasing at Praxair. Airgas was by far the most expensive, not by a little. I went with a medium small size(Praxair size Q), looks to be the same as what airgas called an 80. I'm a little concerned about the mix, it isn't clearly labeled 7...

Re: Best Price On A Millermatic 211?

Right now is a good time to buy that unit, $200 rebate and free spool gun. It seems that all the retailers have it priced within $5-10. For the rebate miller just says an autherized retailer, shouldn't matter if it's an online purchase or not.

Re: Gas suppliers

Unfortunately there's only 1 lws here, its an independent shop but I'm told that their prices are high. I called Praxair and didn't like the attitude of the guy who I talked to, impatient like I was bothering him and after getting off the phone I'm still unsure of the cost. Both the lws and Praxair ...
