Clamp Base for Grizzly Vise

This vise base is made from 2x3x 3/8" angle and 3/8" plate. The mounting plate is 6x6" and the opening is about 3 1/4" to fit my 3" square tube welding table. The dual clamp rods 5/8 - 11 threaded rod with contact pads. Yes, of course there are roller thrust bearings under t...

Re: Another Homebuilt TIG Torch Cooler

Looking back on this project, it was fun but I saved very little over new unit. Retired folk don't justify time spent. The fittings were the surprise. My advice would be buy a new, or good used USA unit. Avoid china!

Re: Another Homebuilt TIG Torch Cooler

The flow switch that I used closes at 3 gallons per hour of water flow. That equals .05 GPM. The torch, that Glenn measured for me, flowed about 1/4 GPM (15 GPH) at 40 PSI. It was a 25 foot CK20 torch. You would probably be safe at 0.1 GPM (6 GPH). These low flow switches are hard to find. I just sp...

Another Homebuilt TIG Torch Cooler

Parts from Ebay. Flow switch to prevent cooking the torch if there is no water flow. Poker chips? :)

Re: tungsten sharpener

I did a calculation to determine how much rotation would be on the tungsten if it were spun against a grinding wheel. Grinding wheel surface speed in inches per minute > 6 inch wheel, 3450 rpm. TT X 6" X 3450 rpm = 65031 inches per minute Tungsten spin drill rotation in degrees per minute > 950...

Purge Manifold for SS

A four port manifold with QD fittings. These fittings have internal shutoff valves. I used 1/8 ID silicon tubing (400° rated). You will still have to use 1/8 OD metal tubes if you need to purge close to your weld. McM-Carr has the fittings.

Re: Welder Air Filter

Thanks for all the interest and flow measurement ideas. I like the filter minders; didn't know they were available. Ebay had an International / Navstar unit for $13 so I have one coming. K&N laces there products with gold according to their prices. I also found a $40 electronic differential pres...

Welder Air Filter

This is about adding a air filter and booster fan to an electronic welder. Having worked in machine controls for the better part of 40 years I know that electronics likes to be kept clean, You can not just add a filter over the welders air intake as this would reduce the air flow and reduce the weld...
