Re: GMAW SCH 40 stainless socket welds

Good to know. Looks like bad practice for sure. They are obviously having a difficult time getting it sealed if this is what we are being left with. http://i.imgur.com/vCbUGYWh.jpg http://i.imgur.com/ENkSvOxh.jpg http://i.imgur.com/nwccysDh.jpg Welder and settings it was left at. http://i.imgur.com/...

GMAW SCH 40 stainless socket welds

Is there a procedure for single pass Mig welding schedule 40 socket welds for steam pipe? We will see up to 100 psi saturated steam pressure on this line. I work for a small food manufacturer and our engineer brought in a contractor to install a new stainless boiler for our process. The pipe fitter ...

Re: Tig welding and a flashing Light

If your helmet has a delay function try turning it up. I had an issue with my helmet failing to see the arc which was messing with my eyes. Extending the dark period after light is removed from the sensor with the delay function solved that for me by giving more time for the light to hit the sensor ...

Re: Steering Knuckle Repair

Most of the steering knuckles I've seen have been cast steel and therefore weldable but this sounds like a repair where you should replace the part. Why did it wear in the first place? Was the ball joint seized? There really shouldn't be any slip in this joint for it to wear out.

Sounds like lack of gas flow or wind blowing your gas away.

Re: The what I welded today (/whenever) thread (pics please)

That's sch 10, typical my I'll put a bevel on it and tack, then backpurge and use 3/32" filler..you can get full penetration easier that way. You can weld sch 10 butted but you have to crank it up to get through. I ended up welding it butted at 65 amps walking the cup. Learned a lot. Wish I go...

Re: The what I welded today (/whenever) thread (pics please)

Nice piping Rick, modifying existing is always a gamble. Sometimes it works out nice, sometimes you gotta scoot some equipment and sometimes it just ends up a maze. I was wrong about the 6" tube, it's .109 wall not .083 wall. Suggested settings for that thickness? I use very similar param...

Thanks Rick. Here they are all mounted up to the spray arms. I need to pick up one of those nice big 12+ cups one day. http://i.imgur.com/5NDZkJpl.jpg http://i.imgur.com/rp0NTZdl.jpg What settings do you use for .083 wall tubing? I'm still pretty new (< 1 year) and most of our tubing is under 2"...

Re: The what I welded today (/whenever) thread (pics please)

Looking good...I just did some 1/2" 316L on Maxstar 150, no pulse % adj set at 50%-50% ran 40amps, 2.5pps. weld fast heat builds up quick ... Awesome stuff as always. Ain't that the truth. The little tube can be touchy but at least it's mostly ferrules being welded. It goes in pretty quickly w...

Re: The what I welded today (/whenever) thread (pics please)

I have been applying Ricks pulse advice for my sanitary welding and I'm enjoying the results. 40A 75% on 25% background at 25% current.

Tube is 1/2" diameter .065 wall 316l stainless.

Not a fan of leaky NPT connections so I welded up the tri-clamp adapters in this bag filter housing. Hopefully I'll have time to install it on our membrane filter skid this upcoming week.

Made some brackets to daisy chain some carts together for work. First aluminum welding project which was good practice. Just had to make the same weld 56 times.
