Re: New Evolution 380
Yes! Thanks. I saw that in there and thought "why did they put that in there like that?" I like the holder for it though.

Re: New Evolution 380
I actually bought three roller stands from Harbor Fright that are pretty good. I use them off one end of the table and i put a small tri square against my blade to make sure my blade is square to the material.

Re: New Evolution 380
I like that idea about the square. I've been using a Northern Tool dry cut saw so this is an upgrade for me. Even though I'm used to a dry cut. I'd never want to use an abrasive for what I do.
Warranty or not I want a good cut so I'm gonna see what I can do.

Re: New Evolution 380
I tried to set before the first cut and it was just slightly out so I was thinking more what you said at the end that it may have a small burr that needs to be filed. Wonder if that would void the warranty?

New Evolution 380
So I finally bit the bullet and got a new Evolution 380. I used it today and it seems like the backstop won't turn quite far enough to get a perfect 90?! I loosened the thing and pushed it as far as it would go and it seems like I'm about a couple degrees shy of 90. Anyone else have this problem? It...

Re: "Sandy" looking beads
Ok thanks. I've cleaned the filler with acetone but really got nothing different. The beads look shiny under the hood but after they cool they're back grainy looking. At least it's normal.

"Sandy" looking beads
I had one of you guys comment on another thread that I must be using 4043 filler because of the sandy looking beads. I guess that's normal? How do you guys get shiny beads using 4043? The welds I'm doing look fine but I was wondering about that certain thing and after the other post I couldn't figur...

Sorry I missed your post but yes I am using 4043. I've been wondering if I had something wrong because of that sandy looking bead. What do you use to have those nice shiny beads?

Re: The what I welded today (/whenever) thread (pics please)
Picked this little job up yesterday. Delivered today. Everything went just as planned which was nice since it usually doesn't go that way for me. Especially on aluminum. It was very dirty and oily but it cleaned up good. It's an oil pan for chevy aveo. I didn't think to grind off the weld where the ...

Re: Business start up question
Thats a good idea and one I've sort of settled on. It might take a few years to mature but I've got nothing but time really. My job is doing fine so no worries. It does feel good to have a little something to fall back on if need be.

Like riding a bike. You'll get in the groove again. After 15 years I'd have forgotten everything. Congrats on the new machine.

Yeah that one crater was because I'm a tight wad and got too close to the fingers and just had to pull away and not let it fill. Sometimes I'll use pliers to burn every inch of filler I can

Cheap use of scraps
These are just some 45 degree drop pieces I welded up for practice. It helped me out with different fit ups and different welds. It thins out in the middle on some pieces and makes me have to let off the peddle also. Some of the fit ups had small gaps because of the welds and I had to fill the gaps ...

Re: Cold Saw blades
Let me know how long those resharpened blades last. I had a couple sharpened and I might as well have tried it myself. Which would have been pointless, but it didn't last 15 cuts and it was duller than ever. If yours hold up I'll know I need a new sharpener guy.

I've also been practicing on some 1/8" and I have my machine set at 140A until I run a pass or two and then I cut it back to around 130A or so. Sometimes I'll run a bead a little cold just to see if I have enough control to keep from just flooring the pedal. I'm really just looking for consiste...

Re: WTB, Lincoln Invertec V205-T
I just saw one on the Greensboro NC craigslist. I probably would've gotten it but I already bought a Precision tig 185. Didn't know how far away you were from NC but if not too far this one looks nice.

Mark I think you told me you had a 185. I see you have a 200 now. How do they compare in terms of ease of use and weld consistency? Do you prefer a transformer or an inverter?

Lt. Badd, I was just picking at you. You always have constructive critiques and I appreciate your thoughts. Mark, I may not have gotten the penetration it should have but I was just practicing and this was something I just had laying around. I think it's only 1/8" wall. Thanks for the comments....

Problem solved
So I recently bought a nice used Precision tig 185 and when I tested the machine it seemed ok. After I got it home welding SS or carbon steel it was fine but the Al wouldn't clean up. It was like I had no gas. I ask a few of y'all about it and after I cleaned everything real good, wiped down the fil...

Re: Transformer vs. Inverter
Since it acts like it's dirty aluminum I'm assuming that's the issue. The fan should be a problem but I was thinking about it today and I've always used my spool gun which seems to be more forgiving so I haven't cleaned the aluminum probably as good as I should. It's 6061 but it's scrap pieces I've ...
