Re: Transformer vs. Inverter
I got about 1 1/2" of decent weld today and have no idea how it happened. I'm using 2% lanthinated and a stubby gas lense. 100% argon too. I've watched all Jody's videos so I have a good understanding of how it's supposed to look and act but I know I'm the weak link in the equation. I've been w...

Transformer vs. Inverter
I know welding is welding but are there any big differences in using a transformer or an inverter for aluminum? I got a Precision Tig 185 and haven't been able to get consistent. It does fine on steel so I'm sure it's me. I'm no tig welder yet but just seems like I get porosity or too wide of an arc...

Just a note from a small time coin collector, if you're wanting extra cash and you happen to buy sterling silver anything just sell it out right. You can use the stainless stuff all day but the .925 stuff is worth selling.

We had a dog in our shop one time. He went blind and we thought "oh no we blinded the dog!". Ends up the honey buns gave him diabetes and that did it. Haha. Poor dog.

If one of your welding buddies looks they might see it though. That's what I always ask myself. "What would Kent say? Or I wonder if Josh would notice that?"
They probably have the same thoughts though. They probably don't worry if I'd see their mistakes though. Haha.

It's cool. I didn't take you that way. Right now I'm building some tables and it seems like no matter how hard I try I can't get it the way I want it. I guess I   just want everything to be dead nuts square and machine shop quality and sometimes I might have something a bit out of square o...

Re: Ok. So I've got a complex
We build buckets, brush cutters, augers and anything else. We just run our wire up to about 800ipm and around 30.5 voltage. I stick weld when I do repairs for other people. Not at my day job. We also don't use dual shield. I guess it's too smoky for an indoor application. Especially with gen or twel...

Re: Ok. So I've got a complex
I didn't mean I'd skip a weld because of being in a hurry. It's mostly when I'm stick welding I rush the weld. At my day job we build bobcat and tractor implements. We get paid production so you guessed it, we try to weld hot and fast. It carries over sometimes.

Re: Ok. So I've got a complex
With all the information out there and my desire to learn I feel like I know more than I'm capable of. I have the know how but not all the experience it took to learn it. Thanks Jody!! I've been welding full time for about twelve years and I mostly have mig welded but I started welding sheet metal w...

Ok. So I've got a complex
Thanks to Jody and some of you guys outstanding looking work I've developed a complex. I can't seem to do a job any more without wondering if Jody or some of the great welders I know would approve. I'm not welding skyscrapers or anything like that but sometimes I feel like I have to say "ok, th...

Re: Torch for my Precision tig 185
My bad. I just looked at the machine and it does have the Twist-mate connector. Still wouldn't mind a few suggestions for a good torch. Also any info on a water cooler or if this machine is capable of that would be cool.

Torch for my Precision tig 185
So I bought a precision tig 185 and it has a micro torch on it. I'd like to know if I can get a torch from CK for this machine and or would I do better to get one from somewhere else? It doesn't look like it has the Dinsen connector but I'll try to figure all that out after I get a new torch.

They're $1449 now but close in price. I like the portability of the new machine. How do you like yours so far? Have you really worked it? How did it hold up?

I don't mean in a hurry so much but trying to make money. Schedule 40 pipe more than likely. It's priced at around $1500. Hardly used except for hobby use and farm.
Would it be a better buy than a new Squarewave tig 200?

Lincoln 185
Hey guys. I found a Lincoln precision tig 185 barely used and comes with a bottle and filler rods. My question is could this machine do aluminum handrails? I know I could get a mixed bottle with Helium in it and that would help but would it help enough? If I wasn't trying to make decent time preheat...

When I got a Speedglas 9100fx helmet with the papr air system my welding career got a lot better. So it got me thinking what are the tools you don't think you could do without? I wouldn't weld inside for eight hours a day ever without the papr air helmet. I also love my Estwing chipping hammer. Not ...

Re: Plasma with on board compressor?
I don't have a compressor at home but the portability of the Hypertherm is the key for me. I may get a compressor either way at some point but I won't have to have a compressor on my trailer to use the plasma in the field too. The torch should take care of any big stuff. A future air compressor woul...

Re: Plasma with on board compressor?
I was intending on using it for gouging and cutting smaller stuff at my shop. If I go out in the field to work on some of the heavy equipment stuff I have a torch set up for that. I thought having the gouging capability would help on some of the repairs where an old weld needed to be took out too. P...

Plasma with on board compressor?
I know Hypertherm and Lincoln have plasmas with the built in compressors and I was just wondering if anyone has really put one to the test. I saw Chucke do a review on a Hypertherm model but you know,,, everything that's free is always better. A guy at one of my LWS said they were a bad idea because...

Yeah I quit watching ol Chucke 2009 a while ha I just because of the length of the videos that could been done in a third of the time if you took out all the talking and advertising. I like Jodys videos and a new one I've been watching is the 6061 guy. He does some nice work. I agree that supply and...
